British Open 2022: Best Longshot Odds & Picks

Our fourth and final Major of the 2022 season is upon us as The Open Championship will get underway on Thursday, July 14. This year, The Open Championship returns to the Old Course at St Andrews for the first time since 2015.

Below, I will give out my best longshot to win the 2022 Open Championship.

This play is 0.1u, or 0.1% of your betting bankroll. Odds Courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.

Keegan Bradley (+15000): 0.1u

At 150/1, Keegan Bradley is worth taking a shot on to win his second career Major Championship. At the Old Course, iron play is by far the most crucial element for success as the historic links course favors those who can put themselves on the greens in regulation and avoid hazards.

The best iron players will have a significant advantage over the rest of the field as the wind is expected to be howling this week at St Andrews. This will only be further amplified at this links course. At 150/1, I am comfortable taking a stab at one of the most underrated iron players on the Tour.

This season, Bradley ranks 18th on the Tour in SG Tee to Green and 19th in SG Approach to Green. Those metrics put Bradley’s iron play above Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Viktor Hovland.

Bradley is not a “one-trick pony” either, as he ranks 27th in SG Off the Tee and 15th in Total Strokes Gained. Bradley continues to be undervalued at Major Championships. Over his last four Major appearances, Bradley has made the cut three times, with two of those resulting in top-20 finishes.

This season, Bradley has made the cut in both of his Major Championship appearances as he finished T48 at the PGA Championship and T7 at the U.S. Open.

In terms of The Open Championship specifically, Bradley has made the cut in five of his eight career appearances, with three of those five made-cuts resulting in top-20 finishes. With his extensive Major Championship experience and success under his belt, Bradley should be a contender at the minimum this week.

That said, what could push Bradley over the top is that he enters this tournament as one of the hottest golfers in the world. Bradley has made the cut in seven of his last eight tournaments, with four top-10 finishes. With his excellent iron play, Major Championship experience and superb recent form, 150/1 is absolutely worth a shot.

Other Outright Winner Plays:

  • Sam Burns (40/1): 0.4u
  • Joaquin Niemann (50/1): 0.25u
  • Hideki Matsuyama (50/1): 0.25u

Best of luck!
