Overview

The Chicago Bears’ offense is struggling. Mitchell Trubisky has regressed quite a bit in his third season, and he and the offense are averaging the fourth-worst yardage total per game this season, ahead of only the Redskins, Dolphins, and Jets. They’re also averaging just 18.3 points per game, ranking them at sixth-worst in the NFL. It’s not the company the Bears expected to be in at this point in the season, but unlike those other teams they are still around .500, and a win this week would keep them in the playoff hunt.

The reason for this is their defense. They’re currently ranked seventh in yards allowed per game and sixth in points against and have forced 11 turnovers this season.

Meanwhile, the Eagles got a much-needed win on Sunday, demolishing the Bills in Buffalo while picking apart their tough defense with ease. That was without DeSean Jackson, who suited up for practice this week and looks like he should be good to go on Sunday. It was a welcome sight after back-to-back weak showings against the Cowboys and Vikings.

Last week, the Eagles’ defense was solid, but for most of the season has really struggled, primarily due to a weakened secondary. The good news is that this weekend they will be facing a struggling quarterback. They were able to shut down Josh Allen for the most part last week, which is a good sign that they should have similar success against Mitchell Trubisky.

Trends

  • The Bears are 2-5 ATS this season.
  • The Eagles are 3-5 ATS this season.
  • The total has gone under in nine of the Bears’ last 12 games.
  • The total has gone over in four of the Eagles’ last six games.
  • The Eagles are 5-1 SU in their last six home games.
  • The Bears are 4-1 SU in their last five road games.

Prop Bet

BEARS UNDER 18.5 POINTS (-110)
There is no reason to believe in this offense right now. In their last four games, they have scored over 20 points only twice. Once was against Oakland, and the other instance came when they put up garbage time points against New Orleans. The Eagles’ defense is better than Oakland’s, but they’re not good enough to blow out the Bears as New Orleans did, so I don’t see much room for garbage time points. This should be a low-scoring game, and the Bears feel like they’re going to be on the losing end.

Bottom Line

While this is a revenge game for the Bears, their offense simply has not been good enough to generate any type of confidence against an average Philly defense. The Eagles looked like the team we all expected this season in their victory over the Bills. The Bears’ defense has been good this season and could have a game-breaking defensive touchdown that throws this spread out of whack. But the Eagles shouldn’t need to score more than 21 points in this game to cover.

Pick: Eagles -5
