College Football Playoff Player Prop Bets: Ohio State vs. Texas (Cotton Bowl)

The Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns battle it out on January 10th in the Cotton Bowl, the semi-finals of the College Football Playoff (CFP).

Ohio State has a major chip on its shoulder. The Buckeyes missed the Big Ten Championship after losing to Michigan in the final regular season game of the year. However, it gave them more time to prepare for the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes look like the best team in the nation.

After all, Ohio State beat Tennessee and Oregon, scoring at least 41 points in each game.

On the other hand, Texas made the SEC Championship but lost to Georgia in a tight overtime matchup. The Longhorns have since recovered and won against Clemson and Arizona State but haven’t won nearly as convincingly.

With this in mind, I’ve added a few player props for the Cotton Bowl below.

Best College Football Player Prop Bets & Picks: Cotton Bowl

Let’s dive into our top college football prop bet picks for the Cotton Bowl.

      (Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

TreVeyon Henderson Over 50.5 Rushing Yards (-117)

TreVeyon Henderson has been so much better than Quinshon Judkins this year. On about 50 fewer carries, Henderson has one more rushing yard than Judkins.

Just like against Oregon, Henderson saw nine fewer carries but broke out for a long play of 66 yards and added 94 rushing yards, averaging 11.8 yards a carry. Henderson has earned at least 50.5 rushing yards in 86% of games this year.

Even if he gets eight carries in this game and can average more than six yards a carry (well below his average), he’ll easily get to 51 rushing yards. Ultimately, he’s had a long rush of at least 29 yards in both College Football Playoff games this year.

Consider Henderson to go over his rushing yards prop.

Carnell Tate Over 38.5 Receiving Yards (-130)

Carnell Tate has recorded at least 39 receiving yards in 69% of games this season. However, he’s added just 18 receiving yards combined in two CFP games.

Before the playoffs, Tate saw at least four receptions in his previous four games. He didn’t need to do much for Ohio State once the Buckeyes led early against Tennessee and Oregon. But this game against Texas should be tight, giving Tate more opportunity throughout the game to make an impact.

Tate is the No. 3 receiver on the team behind Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka. With so much hype surrounding Smith, Tate should benefit. Take his over.

Ryan Wingo Under 25.5 Receiving Yards (-114)

Ryan Wingo finished with 33 receiving yards against Arizona State last time out. That’s because he earned a long reception of 27 yards. He’s only added two or fewer receptions in six consecutive games and has just two games with a reception longer than 13 yards over the last eight matchups.

Meanwhile, Ohio State has one of the best secondaries in the nation. This season, the Buckeyes have allowed just 152.43 yards in the air per game. Ultimately, Wingo is the No. 4 option for Texas. He’s failed to make a huge impact in most of the recent games this season.

I’ll take his under in this game.
