Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants Odds & Game Pick

The Dallas Cowboys got their season back on track with a statement win over the Philadelphia Eagles the week before their bye. After a full two weeks to get healthy and prepare for their next opponent, they should have no problem keeping their foot on the gas in Week 9. The Cowboys are a touchdown-favorite at the New York Giants, who have lost four in a row. Can the Giants turn it around, or should bettors expect them to get blown out again?

Overview

All signs are pointing towards a big win for Dallas in this one. The Cowboys are coming off their best performance of the season by far in a 37-10 win over Philadelphia and more importantly, they have had the extra week to get healthy and prepare for New York. Dak Prescott was happy to welcome back his starting tackles and wide receiver Amari Cooper for the win over the Eagles. Now they’ll go up against a run defense that’s allowed at least 27 points in four straight. Over that same span, the Giants are giving up 135 rushing yards per game. It’s hard to see Dallas losing – or even breaking a sweat – if Ezekiel Elliott is running well. On top of that, the Giants are giving up 9.1 yards-per-attempt this season to opposing quarterbacks, which is the worst number in the NFL. Dallas should really do whatever they want on offense in this spot, which will put a lot of pressure on the Giants to keep up.

Speaking of the Giants, the Daniel Jones’ experiment has hit a bit of a wall over the past month. After a thrilling start that included back-to-back wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins, Jones has lost four straight starts against some tough opponents. It doesn’t get any easier for the rookie sixth-overall pick this week. Jones threw for 322 yards and four touchdowns against the Detroit Lions last week, but it still wasn’t enough as they lost that game 31-26. The main issue has been turnovers as he is now up to 12 in six games. It’s hard to win in the NFL when your quarterback is averaging two turnovers a game.

Trends

  • Dallas has won each of the last five meetings between these teams
  • The Cowboys are 10-1 both straight up and against the spread in their last 11 meetings against NFC East opponents overall
  • The Giants are just 2-9-1 against the spread in their last 12 home games
  • The Giants are also 1-4 ATS in their last five games against opponents with a winning record overall

Bottom Line

The Giants made their last two losses look close, but for the most part, they’ve been blown out the last four weeks. To win here, they’re going to need a monster effort from Saquon Barkley. They’ve put their offense on Jones’ shoulders, and while he’s played well, he can’t do it all – especially in this spot. And the good news is that the Cowboys are giving up 4.2 yards per carry, so there is an opening.

At the same time, I don’t see the Cowboys having many problems scoring here. The Giants’ defense won’t offer much resistance. That being the case, they should get into the 30s. The Giants will punch back here and there, but a couple of Jones’ turnovers will put this game out of hand.

Prediction: Dallas 35, New York 17
