Miami Dolphins NFL Betting Preview: Odds, Picks & Best Bet (2022)

What are Team Futures?

Futures refers to any team-based wager for a future event or a result. These bets often do not pay out until weeks or even months from when they are originally placed. Bets for Win Totals and the Super Bowl winner are good examples of team futures bets.

The Dolphins should once again boast an elite secondary and are expected to showcase a significant degree of offensive firepower with the acquisition of WR Tyreek Hill. There is rightfully much optimism on the Dolphins’ outlook this season, as these elements are typically catalysts for an unlikely team to make a playoff push.

Despite this, Miami drew a brutal start to their season, and first-year HC Mike McDaniel may struggle to find success without an elite signal-caller. And while initial offseason reports regarding Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins are certainly encouraging, his first two years as an NFL QB were pedestrian at best.

The AFC is loaded this year, and it would be shocking if Miami were to advance from such a stacked conference. It’s recommended to pass on their odds to win the Super Bowl.

I suppose that Joe Burrow and the Bengals have reminded bettors of the value in taking longshots. But instinctively, Miami feels as though they deserve much longer odds than 20-1 to win the AFC.

For the same reasons mentioned in the previous section, pass on Miami to win the AFC.

Miami Dolphins Division Winner (+450)

In a similar argument against the Carolina Panthers winning the NFC South, Miami has been consistently handled by the division-favorite Buffalo Bills during the Josh Allen era. And while possible, there is no likely path to a division title that does not necessitate regression from the Super Bowl-favorite Bills.

Furthermore, in regards to coaching, New England undoubtedly has Miami outmatched, and the Jets may very well possess a better roster top to bottom.

Pass on the Dolphins to win the AFC East.

This win total is likely inflated by a fluky win streak against subpar competition in 2021. But regardless, these Dolphins are certainly better (on paper) than the team of a season ago.

In that same vein, the 2021 Dolphins finished with nine wins and flirted with a playoff spot, and therefore it is difficult to rationalize a bet on the under for the season.

However, and as previously noted, Miami may once again struggle out of the gate. If one were still bullish on the Dolphins’ 2022 season being a successful one, you will certainly find a better line than o8.5 (-130) if a shaky start were to occur.

The line on the Dolphins’ win total implies an expectation that they will win nine games, and nine wins is often enough to earn a wild card berth. Therefore, there is no inherent value in wagering the Dolphins to miss the playoffs (-160) rather than bet their win total u9 (-125).

On the other hand, if one were optimistic about the Dolphins’ outlook this season, then +145 that they earn a playoff spot represents value. Even still, restraint in investing on Dolphins playoff odds altogether may be the best wager currently on the board. 

Favorite Miami Dolphins Futures Bet 

Uncertainty paired with a very difficult schedule to start the year makes it hard to justify any preseason bet on the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins may very well end up being a formidable team, but it is preferable to wait and see from Miami with the potential of getting better odds midseason.
