Thursday’s Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins
Starting Pitchers: MacKenzie Gore vs. Ryan Weathers
Ryan Weathers will take the mound for the first time in a while. The left-handed pitcher has only faced 102 batters this season. However, he held a .281 wOBA against those 102 batters and allowed only 38.6% of hard contact.
He’ll likely start the game off against CJ Abrams, James Wood and Riley Adams. All three of those hitters have an ISO of no better than .111 and a wOBA of no better than .287 over the last month.
As a matter of fact, Abrams, Wood and Adams have all struck out more than 32% of the time against lefties over the last month.
On the other side of the hill, MacKenzie Gore has struck out 22.7% of batters over the last month. He’s also limited his last 21 lefties to a .111 ISO and wOBA of .304.
Gore will face the Marlins’ top of the lineup, which features Xavier Edwards and Agustin Ramirez. Both have struggled against lefties over the last month. In addition, Jakob Marsee will llikely bat third. While he’s performed alright, Gore has pitched well against lefties as a left-handed pitcher himself.
Let’s take the NRFI in this Nationals-Marlins game.
Pick: NRFI (-142)
Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres
Starting Pitchers: McCade Brown vs. Randy Vasquez
The Padres will pitch Randy Vasquez tonight. The right-hander has held his last 39 batters to a .111 ISO and wOBA of .318. He’s earned 50% of ground balls and has allowed just 20% of fly balls over that span.
Vasquez takes on a super-impatient Rockies lineup that rarely walks. In addition, Tyler Freeman will lead off. He’s hit a .026 ISO and wOBA of .215 against righties over the last 30 days. Hunter Goodman, who will bat third, has struck out over 30.4% of the time in the previous 30 days against righties.
Meanwhile, McCade Brown will start for the Rockies. He’s only faced 53 batters, but should have an easier time against the Padres’ lineup. San Diego’s lineup has really struggled to hit for power against righties. Luis Arraez and Manny Machado have weak numbers against righties over the last month, too.
Brown has limited walks against righties and has allowed just a .111 ISO to his first 27 lefties. He’s also induced nearly 42% of grounders and has allowed just 25% of fly balls. These are numbers to take note of.
Let’s also take the NRFI in this game.
Pick: NRFI (-113)
