Tuesday's Best MLB Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
New York Yankees (+102) at Philadelphia Phillies (-122) | O/U 9 (-102/-118)
Are the Yankees finally turning it around? They are coming off taking two out of three against the Red Sox and had a big showing against Philadelphia on Monday night. Their bats are scorching, as they are averaging a whopping 10 runs in their last four and the pitching has been much better, allowing six runs in their last two.
New York has already made some moves at the trade deadline. One of them has already contributed with Jazz Chisholm Jr. hitting two home runs in last night's game, but they could make more. Gerrit Cole got shelved again for the second time in seven starts; the good news is both were against the Mets, who he won't be facing.
Still, the Phillies will be a tough offensive opponent. They are among the top five in batting average, on-base percentage (OBP) and runs scored.
Although their recent stretch hasn't been as bad as the Yankees’, they have been struggling. They have lost eight of their last 11, but unlike New York, they still have a hold on the National League East.
This pitching staff is second in ERA and has two pitchers in the top five for National League Cy Young odds, and one of them isn't Aaron Nola. He's been fantastic, as he has quality starts in six out of seven starts with a 3.38 ERA.
The Yankees' bats are on a fantastic run and we should see a better game from Philly tonight, even with Cole on the mound.
Pick: Over 9 Runs (-102)
Seattle Mariners (-122) at Philadelphia Phillies (+102) | O/U 9.5 (-115/-105)
The Mariners have struggled, and as the Astros ascend, they have lost their grasp of first place in the American League West.
They would likely have a better record if they had even an average offense. They are near the bottom in many statistical categories, but they have already tried to boost this lineup and brought in Randy Arozarena, who hit his first home run with the team on Monday, and Justin Turner.
This is the best pitching staff in baseball, as they lead the league in ERA, WHIP, quality starts and opponents’ batting average. Luis Castillo is having another great season with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP, but the lack of run support has continually hurt him. The team averages 3.5 runs during his starts, and he's only 8-10.
The Red Sox got to Logan Gilbert with a seven-run third inning and added seven more against the bullpen for a 14-7 win. They needed a win after losing two out of three against the Yankees. With Seattle possibly needing a Wild Card spot, it could be important down the road.
They've already become buyers as they've picked up catcher Danny Jansen, reliever Quinn Priester and tonight's starter.
James Paxton returns to Boston after being traded from the Dodgers last year. They brought him back last week. He's been roughed up recently with an 8.66 ERA in his last four starts.
Pick: Over 9.5 Runs (-115)
