What are Team Futures?

Futures refers to any team-based wager for a future event or a result. These bets often do not pay out until weeks or even months from when they are initially placed. Bets for win totals and the Super Bowl winner are good examples of team futures bets.

New York Giants Super Bowl Odds

Rookie head coach Brian Daboll takes over a team at a crossroads. The Giants’ two most important offensive players, QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley, are in the last year of their contracts. Long-time general manager Dave Gettleman, now retired, left behind a tight cap situation that has forced incoming general manager Joe Schoen to make tough decisions. Schoen cut the team’s best cornerback, James Bradberry, to save around $10.1 million on the cap. He also let several veterans, like S Logan Ryan and his 117 combined tackles, walk in free agency. The cap casualties and only a few league-minimum free agent additions leave this Giants defense, ranked 23rd in points allowed last season, with more questions than incoming answers.

Offensively, the Giants were abysmal in 2021, finishing last in total touchdowns, points per game, and second to last in total yards. Coach Daboll was brought in from the high-powered Buffalo Bills offense to install his scheme and right the ship. However, a Super Bowl is a tall order for a team that had the most turnovers in the league a year ago. Not to mention, history is not on his side. A rookie head coach has not won the Super Bowl in over a quarter of a century. The last was George Seifert, who took over a 49ers team that had won the Super Bowl in 1988. This New York team is not ready to contend with the league’s elite rosters, so don’t count on Daboll as an outlier statistic.

New York Giants Conference Winner Odds

The last time I checked, the Rams were still in the NFC. Plus, could you really see Daniel Jones going toe to toe with the likes of Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers in an NFC Championship game and winning? Even at +4400, stay away from this one. The odds are long for a reason.

New York Giants Division Winner Odds

The Giants have the longest odds of any NFC East team to win the division. The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys look poised to compete for the top spot, and the Washington Redskins will also be competitive. However, at +800, there could be value in sprinkling a little action on New York. We have to ask ourselves, is it within the realm of possibility the Giants win this division?

While New York’s free agent summer was quiet, they made a splash during the draft. With two picks in the top seven, the Giants landed DE Kayvon Thibodeaux from Oregon at pick five and OT Evan Neal from Alabama at pick 7. Thibodeaux was the number one player on several draft boards, and Neal was also considered the top tackle by many. Early reports out of camp also have 2nd-round pick, WR Wan’Dale Robinson, already impressing the coaching staff.

Look, a lot would have to go the Giants’ way for them to finish on top of the NFC East. The division rivals would all have to beat up on one another, and New York would have to handle business with some of the weaker opponents on the schedule. Thibadeaux, Neal, and even Robinson seemingly have to be immediate impact players. Plus, the defense would need contributions from a few late-round draft picks like CB Cor’Dale Flott and S Dane Belton.

Is it likely all of the necessary dominoes fall their way? Probably not, but there is a path where New York grinds its way to the top. I like the value of the Giants winning the NFC East at +800.

New York Giants Win Totals Over/Under Odds

The Giants only won four games last season, so the over line of 7.5 wins may seem like a massive stretch. Consider though that the Giants had the second toughest schedule in 2021, while this season, New York is gifted with the easiest 2022 schedule based on Vegas win totals, according to Sharp Football Analysis. Daniel Jones also missed the final six games in 2021. If Daboll proves an improvement over Joe Judge, Jones leaps forward while staying healthy, Saquon returns to form, and the rookie class makes an impact, this team could be poised to surprise a few of their tougher opponents.

They could also gain some early momentum by taking advantage of the fact that four out of their first six games are at home. Looking at the schedule, I am leaning towards taking the over 7.5 at +105, but it could go either way in a competitive NFC East.

New York Giants to Make the Playoffs Odds

If you are buying the optimistic scenario for New York, then rather than betting YES for Giants to Make the Playoffs at +225, I suggest going for the home run and taking the Giants to win the NFC East at +800 instead. The NFC East did send two teams to the playoffs last season; the division-winning Cowboys and the Eagles squeaked in with a 9-8 record. The Eagles improved this offseason, with their biggest move being the trade for WR AJ Brown, while the Cowboys lost several key contributors to free agency.

Now add a scrappy Giants team to the mix, and the division winner could end up with a 10-7 or even 9-8 record. Even with the projected easy schedule for the Giants, I believe the true value bet for a playoff run is them winning the division crown.

Favorite New York Giants Futures Bet

Saquon Barkley had over 900.5 rushing yards (-120)

BettingPros consensus has the over/under rushing yard total for Saquon Barkley at 900.5 yards. Saquon is now over a year removed from his ACL injury, looks in great shape, according to reports, and is in a contract year. The Giants will ride him as long as he will hold up, and with little to no competition for carries on the depth chart, 901 yards seems like an easily attainable mark. Opportunity? Check. Talent? Check. Motivation? Check. I like Barkley to hit over 900.5 rushing yards (-120) with an entire season of games started in a contract year.

For the team futures bet, my favorite looks as if it has to be the Giants to win the NFC East at +800 purely as a value play. If it hits, that is a nice payout. Is it likely? Probably not. Possible? Sure!
