Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua: Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Prediction (2022)

We are within 10 days of the super fight of the summer as Anthony Joshua will look to get his revenge on Oleksandr Usyk at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia on August 20th. Almost one year since their first fight, Joshua suffered just the second loss of his career as Usyk remained undefeated in what was a back and forth fight that ultimately went Usyk’s way via unanimous decision.

Will the rematch be any different? Let’s take a closer look at both fighters and how this one might shake out.

Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) vs. Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs)

The bigger fighter by 3″, with a 4″ reach advantage, Joshua was unable to use his length as he planned to in the first fight, as Usyk’s quickness and power seemed to catch him off guard in the early rounds; something he never fully recovered from in the eyes of the judges. As the fight gets closer, pictures have surfaced of Usyk looking bigger, from a muscle standpoint, than in his first fight, and will certainly be a storyline as the fight approaches.

With the first win over Joshua, Usyk won the WBA (Super), WBO, IBO, and IBF titles in the process, these to go along with his already secured WBO Inter-Continental belt. The fight also derailed for Joshua the ever-looming potential for a super fight with Tyson Fury, England’s other champion, for what would surely be one of the biggest fights the country has ever seen.

While Usyk’s run up to this point has been nothing short of impressive, it’s worth noting that Joshua was by far his toughest opponent to date; and he passed the test with flying colors. Quick on his feet for a heavyweight, Usyk does lack the knockout power often seen in the division, with just one of his past six fights ending inside of the distance.

Bottom Line

With Usyk having put on more muscle in the time since it’ll be curious to see if he’s still the quick fighter that we saw in the first fight. What will be even more interesting to see, however, are the adjustments that Joshua has made in the time since.

In the first fight, despite losing the early rounds, Joshua was able to adjust in the later rounds and win some heading into the 12th; albeit too little too late.

In this fight, as we saw with his Ruiz rematch, I like for Joshua’s adjustments to be enough to get the job done and for him to pull this one out as the sizeable underdog for the first time in his career.
