Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa: Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Prediction (2022)

Resorts World in Las Vegas, Nevada, will play host this weekend to a junior welterweight matchup between two fighters trending in opposite directions. For the heavy favorite Teofimo Lopez, the first loss of his career derailed a potential super fight against the likes of Ryan Garcia or Gervonta Davis, as he’ll look to use this fight as a bounce back for what should be a still-great career.

Will the massive underdog Pedro Campa have something to say about that? Let’s take a closer look.

Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs) vs. Pedro Campa (34-1-1, 23 KOs)

With the world watching live from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City in November, Lopez put his WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO lightweight titles on the line vs. George Kambosos Jr., only to lose via split decision in what was a challenging 12 round fight. As a result of the loss, one where he was overpowered in the later rounds, Lopez will move up to the junior welterweight division, one that more closely matches his walkaround weight.

As an alternative to a quick rematch vs. Kambosos, the former champion instead chose this fight as a get-right bout, as he takes on a fighter in Pedro Campa who has yet to face any real competition.

As far as Campa is concerned, the Mexican fighter is 34-1 for a reason and comes into this fight with some of the heaviest hands Lopez will have seen in terms of knockout power. With Campa’s most impressive win coming over Aaron Herrera, he’ll no doubt be taking a giant leap up in competition with this fight vs. Lopez, a challenge only time will tell if he’s ready for.

Bottom Line

While Lopez is the worthy massive favorite with his high-level skill combined with the quality opponent record, Campa has one of the toughest chins in this division and will be a pain to get out of the ring. Lopez has way too much to lose, however, if a path to victory wasn’t all but assured when picking this fight, and I think we see him get there in the later rounds behind the most technical punching Campa will have seen to date.

Although it’s tempting to take a flyer on the massive underdog, I think Lopez ultimately wins, but it comes via points. At nearly 4/1 odds, I think there is value in the favorite getting there via a decision.
