2023 U.S. Open Best Odds, Picks & Predictions: Round 3 (Saturday)

We're halfway through the 2023 U.S. Open, and we have a fascinating leaderboard.

Rickie Fowler will be a lot of people's sentimental favorite heading into the weekend. The former wunderkind came off the rails for a couple of years, but he seems to be back on track. Fowler has been a fan favorite since he first came onto the scene more than a decade ago, and everyone likes a good redemption story.

Xander Schauffele is an outstanding young player looking for his first major. How cool would it be if a SoCal kid could win his first major in Los Angeles?

Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson are proven competitors who have each won multiple majors.

Wyndham Clark has been red-hot this season, and a major would certify him as a world-class player.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, is in the hunt, as is British Open champion Cameron Smith.

Here are my favorite U.S. Open bets for Saturday.

U.S. Open Best Bets for Round 3 (Saturday)

Xander Schauffele to win (+400)

After an opening-round 62 put him in a tie for the lead with Rickie Fowler, Schauffele wasn't as sharp in Round 2, shooting an even-par 70. But Schauffele was +2 on the day heading to the 17th hole, then finished birdie-birdie. That had to give the La Jolla native a generous infusion of confidence heading into the weekend. Schauffele has the game to conquer the Los Angeles Country Club's North Course, and his local knowledge of the climate and terrain should help.

Dustin Johnson to win (+1200) and to finish top 5 (+150)

These are generous odds for D.J., who's sitting in a tie for sixth, four shots off the lead. Johnson has major championship pedigree. He won the U.S. Open in 2016 and also has a Green Jacket for winning The Masters in 2020. He's long and straight off the tee, and his deft touch around the greens is underrated.

Viktor Hovland to finish top 5 (+900)

Hovland enters the weekend at -1, in an 11-way tie for 19th. He's been scorching-hot, having won The Memorial earlier this month and tying for second at last month's PGA Championship. Hovland also tied for seventh at The Masters this year. One of the top ballstrikers in the world, Hovland is capable of making a big move this weekend, and this is a generous price for him to work his way inside the top 5.

Patrick Reed to finish top 20 (+300)

Reed enters the weekend at +1, only two shots behind the 11-man logjam for 19th place. Reed was +5 nine holes into the tournament. He's -4 since. Like him or not (and most people don't), Reed is a steely competitor and one of the best putters on the planet.
