Today’s 2024 NBA Summer League Best Bets
Here are our top picks for today’s 2024 NBA Summer League action.
Bucks vs. Bulls
The Milwaukee Bucks will rely heavily on MarJon Beauchamp. They're hoping he can elevate his game and be the leader for the Bucks during this year's Summer League. After all, Milwaukee's squad has just three players with two years of NBA experience. Most of the roster is built with rookies, including AJ Johnson and Tyler Smith. On the other hand, all eyes are on Mataz Buzelis of the Bulls. The first-round selection has a really good offensive game, and he can earn a lot of blocks. He'll play alongside other notable names like Julian Phillips. Phillips was drafted last season and had one of the highest verticals in the Summer League. He just didn't get to show off much of his offense during the regular season with limited minutes. Now's his time to shine. That said, the Bulls have even more length with Adama Sanogo. He added 20.2 points and 12 rebounds with Chicago's G-League team last year. You can expect a solid performance from Sonogo as well. Let's take the Bulls at -1.5 (-112).
Pick: Bulls -1.5 (-112)

Hornets vs. Knicks
The Charlotte Hornets already played in the California Classic. The Hornets added a 97-65 win over the Spurs, dominated China, 93-62, and escaped Kings (1), 86-82. Bryce McGowens will lead this squad. He'll start with Leaky Black, Nick Smith Jr., Zavier Simpson, and Jake Stephens. That's the lineup that will take them places. Meanwhile, the Knicks didn't have the luxury of playing with one another yet. But they added many fun pieces in the draft, including Pacome Dadiet and Tyer Kolek. Those two should get solid minutes to showcase their abilities. Additionally, many eyes will be on Rokas Jokubaitis, who has been in Europe for most of his career since being drafted by the Knicks. If Jokubatis plays well this Summer League, the Knicks will surely open up a roster spot for him. That said, the Hornets still have more experience on the roster. They've got guys who have played in the NBA already. That's helped them win already and should help them continue to win today.
Pick: Hornets -7.5 (-110)

Heat vs. Celtics
The Heat and the Celtics lock horns at tha Pavilion in Las Vegas. Miami had teams play in the Summer League at Golden State, Orlando and Sacramento with mixed results. The entry in Orlando was especially bad, losing all five outings. Miami’s Summer League roster includes 11 rookies, including first-round pick Kel’el Ware and second-rounder Pelle Larsson. They’ll want to get a long look at two-way contract rookies Keshad Johnson and Zyon Pullin, too. Cole Swider and Alondes Williams, who were two-way players last season, also are back for a look. Dru Smith is out, still recovering from a major knee injury last season. The defending champs have draftees Baylor Scheierman and Anton Watson in attendance, as well as JD Davison, Neemias Queta and Jaden Springer. The Heat are young and raw, and the Celtics have some more established players. Look for Boston to get out to a fast start in the first game in Vegas for both teams.
Pick: Celtics -1.5 (-112)
- Dan Dobish
Pistons vs. Sixers
The 76ers got their Summer League season started earlier in the week in Salt Lake City. Now in Vegas, we’ll see a similar roster. Ricky Council IV and Jeff Dowtin Jr led the way scoring in Salt Lake City and they should continue right where they left off here. Detroit meanwhile will look to get some good opportunities to see what they have in rookies Ron Holland and Bobi Klintman. One noticeable absence from the Detroit roster is 2023 lottery pick Ausar Thompson who is still working his way back from a health scare that cut his rookie season short. However, Marcus Sasser who had a breakout in Vegas last year will return hoping to replicate his performance. All in all, the lack of experience with this Pistons’ roster playing together will ultimately be the story in this game. The 76ers, who already have three games under their belt, should win this one and cover.
Pick: 76ers -3.5 (-110)
- Ryan Rodeman
Thunder vs. Raptors
The Thunder had entries in Orlando and Utah, getting a jump on Summer League play ahead of Vegas. OKC had mixed results. The Raptors were expected to have Drew Timme, the former Gonzaga standout, but he elected to sign with the Kings. Fardaws Aimaq replaces him on the roster. Aimaq will compete with Ulrich Chomche and Branden Carlson in the middle. Gradey Dick is the most notable player, along with fellow Kansas alum Ochai Agbaji. The Raps have some solid talent, especially in the backcourt, and they could get out to a fast start against the young Thunder players who had mixed results in the games leading up to Las Vegas. Carlson is especially interesting, as he is a big man with a perimeter shot. Look for Toronto get the job done in their first showing at the Pavilion.
Pick: Raptors -2.5 (-108)
- Dan Dobish
Spurs vs. Trail Blazers
We saw the Spurs already in the California Classic and it wasn’t pretty. Disjointed offensive and defensive execution highlighted 32 and 26-point blowouts at the hands of the Hornets and Kings, respectively. They finished strong with a performance against the Chinese National Team, but they were punching bags the entire week. Rookie Stephon Castle performed well, but outside of him, there was little to like about this squad. Portland starts their Summer League here in Vegas and they have an intriguing roster led by two time college National Champion and lottery pick, Donovan Clingan. Kris Murray, a second year player out of Iowa and twin brother of the Kings’ Keegan Murray, is an interesting offensive piece that could complement Clingan well in this setting. Although the Spurs have already played with each other, we know what we’re getting out of them and it isn’t impressive. The Trail Blazers’ roster should be better.
Pick: Trail Blazers -1.5 (-110)
- Ryan Rodeman
Jazz vs. Mavericks
Expectations are high for the Jazz in the Vegas Summer League this year, as they are the betting favorite to win at DraftKings (+700). With five first-round draft picks from the last two drafts on the roster, that isn’t a shock. The team went 2-1 in the California Classic and should get better the more they play. As for the Mavericks, Dallas will take a talented roster under second-year summer league coach Jared Dudley to Vegas. Fans are eager to see 2024 draft picks Olivier-Maxence Prosper and Melvin Ajinca take the court. Ajinca has made a strong impression on Dudley since the second-round pick has already been promoted to the starting rotation. However, while we have seen this Jazz team play well, the Mavericks are a question mark. There is no telling what we’ll see from them. We don’t see this as a high-scoring game since they will undoubtedly have some kinks to work out.
Pick: UNDER 186.5 (-110)
- Travis Pulver
Suns vs. Warriors
Golden State had a strong showing in the California Classic with dominant wins over the Lakers and Heat and a 91-90 victory over a solid Sacramento squad. Their performance in California led to them having the second shortest odds to the Jazz (+700) at +750. With talented players like Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis, the Warriors’ 2023 draft picks, they’ll be tough to beat. Of course, they’ll have their hands full against the talent Phoenix is bringing to Vegas, i.e., 2024 draft picks Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro, undrafted rookie Jalen Bridges, etc. After watching the Warriors crush two opponents in the California Classic, we feel good about taking them to beat the Suns.
Pick: Warriors -7.5 (-110)
