2024 PGA Championship Picks: Patrick Cantlay, Tyrrell Hatton, Collin Morikawa

2024 PGA Championship Best Prop Bets: Odds & Picks

Golf's biggest stars descend on Louisville, Kentucky, this week for the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, which will be played at Valhalla Golf Club.

This will be the fourth PGA Championship to be played at Valhalla, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that opened in 1986. Mark Brooks won the first PGA at Valhalla in 1996. Tiger Woods outlasted Bob May in a memorable Valhalla duel to win the 2000 PGA Championship. And Rory McIlroy won the PGA here in 2014, edging Phil Mickelson by a stroke.

Brooks Koepka is the defending PGA Championship winner. He won by two strokes over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler last year at Oak Hill. But Scheffler is the headliner this week. The No. 1 player in the world has been on fire this year, winning four of his last five events. Last month, Scheffler won the first major of 2024, The Masters, earning his second Green Jacket.

2024 PGA Championship Picks

Here are a few of our favorite 2024 PGA Championship picks for a few notable golfers at this week’s major tournament.

Tyrrell Hatton Stats to Know

  • Best Odds to Win: +6500 (FanDuel)
  • World Ranking: 17
  • Best PGA Finish: 10 (2016, 2018)
  • Last four PGA finishes: 15, 13, 38, MC
  • Last four tournament finishes: 5, 14, 9, 4

Course History

The last time Tyrell Hatton finished top-10 at a PGA Championship was in 2018 when he shot a final-round 64 to ascend the leaderboard on Sunday. He’s never seriously contended in this event. This will be the first PGA Tour event at Valhalla Golf Course for Tyrell Hatton.

Tyrrell Hatton Recent Form

Hatton has played three PGA Tour events this year. The Sentry and the Sony Open in Hawaii before joining LIV Golf, and then he returned to PGA Tour competition for the 2024 Master Tournament. Hatton has had top-15 finishes in each with a 14th, 13th and ninth, respectively.

Tyrrell Hatton 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook

It can be difficult to gauge how a LIV golfer is playing compared to the PGA Tour golfers. Hatton, though, has played a few PGA events this year and has finished in the top 15 in each. I like a top-20 bet (+200 at DraftKings) on Hatton this week.

Patrick Cantlay Stats to Know

  • Best Odds to Win: +4000 (BetMGM, BetRivers)
  • World Ranking: 8
  • Best PGA Championship Finish: 3 (2019)
  • Last Four PGA Championship Finishes: 9, MC, 23, 43
  • Last Four Tournament Finishes: 29, 23, 3, 22

Course History

With two wins and four top-5 finishes at The Memorial, Patrick Cantlay seems to have an eye for Jack Nicklaus layouts. While the eighth-ranked golfer in the world has yet to play Valhalla in competition, you’d have to think his game plays well here. The UCLA alum is no stranger to being in the mix on Sunday at the PGA Championship, finishing third in 2019.

Patrick Cantlay Recent Form

Despite making headlines off the course as part of the PGA Tour Policy Board, Cantlay is having a solid season. Last week was the first time in a month the 32-year-old Cantlay hadn’t finished in the top 25.

Patrick Cantlay 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook

While there are certainly several golfers in better form, Cantlay is worth a small wager on the outright win and is a strong option in the top-20 market. Make sure you don’t overlook him when putting together your card.

Collin Morikawa Stats to Know

  • Best Odds to Win: +2800 (BetMGM, BetRivers)
  • World Ranking: 13
  • Best PGA Championship Finish: 1 (2020)
  • Last Four PGA Finishes: 26, 55, 8, 1
  • Last Four Tournament Finishes: 16, 9, 3, 75

Course History

Collin Morikawa won the first PGA Championship of his career, beating Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey by two shots at Harding Park in 2020. Morikawa finished eighth at Kiawah Island in 2021 but has finished outside the top 25 in the last two PGAs. As with most younger players in the field, Morikawa has not yet played Valhalla on the PGA Tour.

Collin Morikawa Recent Form

We’re seeing some encouraging signs of life from two-time major winner Collin Morikawa. He has scuffled for nearly two years by his standards, but he has strung together a strong 2024 campaign. Morikawa’s form at the Masters was stellar and erased any concern with the former Cal Bear’s putting woes under pressure.

Collin Morikawa 2024 PGA Championship Betting Outlook

Valhalla is a ball-striker’s paradise. Collin Morikawa is a world-class iron player and is among the most accurate in the world from tee to green. As he regains some of his confidence and swagger from 2019 and 2020, we should see fewer instances where Morikawa cracks under pressure in major tournaments. At 25-1, he is priced appropriately, and I would be enticed to bet him outright with a top-10 kicker.
