Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals Odds & Game Pick

These two teams could not be in more different places at this point in the season. The Baltimore Ravens just slayed Goliath, giving the New England Patriots their first loss of the season. The Cincinnati Bengals stand alone as the only winless team in the NFL and they will be starting fourth-round rookie quarterback Ryan Finley on Sunday to see if they have any future in him. This is the second matchup between these two AFC North teams this season, with the Ravens winning 23-17 the first time, but failing to cover the spread.

Overview

Proving just how tough he is to prepare against, Lamar Jackson put the Patriots’ defense in disarray, racking up 37 points in the win. Baltimore has now won four games in a row and has positioned itself in a great position to take the AFC North. The team’s overall health has arguably been their biggest strength this season, with only three players on IR and three others listed on the injury report this week.

Offensively, they are the best running team in the league. Defensively, they have improved from their tough start, with the Marcus Peters acquisition being a big boost on the back end of this defense that surrenders 277.4 passing yards per game. In their first matchup with the Bengals, they held Cincinnati to 250 total yards while racking up 497 of their own.

Coming off their bye week, the Bengals sit at the bottom of the league without a win. The team also made a switch at quarterback with fourth-round rookie Ryan Finley getting his first NFL start. Unfortunately, he will not be getting wide receiver A.J. Green at his disposal after Green experienced some soreness following practice this week. Defensively, the Bengals are among the worst in the league. They give up a league-high 5.1 yards per carry along with a league-worst 435.8 total yards surrendered per game. Along with allowing teams to run all over them, they also average the second-most defensive penalties per game with 8.75.

Trends

  • The total has hit the over in four of Baltimore’s last six games.
  • Baltimore is 4-1 straight up in its last five games.
  • Cincinnati is 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last six games against Baltimore.
  • The total has hit the under in six of Cincinnati’s last nine games.
  • The Baltimore Ravens lead the all-time series with the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-23.
  • Last Meeting: October 13, 2019 — The Ravens defeated the Bengals, 23-17, at M&T Bank Stadium.

Prop Bet

Winning Margin (4-Way): Baltimore Ravens by 1-13 Pts (+145) — The Ravens are obviously the heavy favorites in this matchup and should have no problem winning the game. However, it seems unlikely that they will win by over 13 points. We hear about how tough it is to game plan against Lamar Jackson because he is so much faster in person. The Bengals get the advantage of seeing him a few weeks ago and also having an extra week to prepare for this matchup. It’s not enough of an advantage to win, but I think it’s enough of one for them to keep it within 13 after losing the first game by just six.

Bottom Line

Despite what I said above, the Ravens are learning to play four quarters, scoring 23 points in their past two fourth quarters. They also get to face a rookie in his first start who is playing behind a terrible offensive line. This spread may move before kickoff with the recent news that A.J. Green is out, but with it as it is now, I think the Ravens will cover it.

Pick: Baltimore Ravens -9.5
