NFL Player Props, Picks & Predictions: Raiders vs. Patriots

Here are some of Andrew Erickson’s top picks for Raiders vs. Patriots. And check out all of his top picks for NFL Week 5.

Erickson’s Outlook for Raiders vs. Patriots

This is a really interesting matchup, with Klint Kubiak and Mike Vrabel meeting again for the first time since the Super Bowl, when Kubiak was Seattle’s offensive coordinator. The Raiders offense has looked really good under Kubiak with Kirk Cousins at quarterback, and even in a loss to the Chiefs, they showed they can hang with the big boys, which was a question mark for a lot of people, myself included. Now they go on the road to take on the Patriots, and this is another test.

I’ll admit I’m a bit of a homer here, but I like the Patriots at this number. Eventually, I think Kirk Cousins is going to start to tail off. I just don’t think what he’s doing is sustainable at a 17-game pace, though I may be off base.

How the Raiders’ defense plays against the Patriots’ offense will be the telltale sign. The Vegas defense has been underrated all season (5th in EPA/play allowed). If it shows out, this could turn into an Under and a spot to bet against Cousins continuing at an elite level and against Drake Maye when he faces a better defense (unlike last week versus a reeling Bills’ defense).

Full disclosure: I have been on point with the Patriots the last two weeks: I bet them to get boat-raced by the Jags, and I covered the spread last week at Buffalo. This matchup, though, I have much less confidence in how the game will go. Which naturally means it’s a lock for the Pats to win by 3 or 4 points – giving me zero sense of a strong reason to bet on this contest.

Even so, betting on the Pats blindly at home as strong favorites has been the profitable trend. Either the Pats laying the points… or the game total UNDER 45. But even the total feels shaky given the Pats are down 3 CBs…making it seem like another strong outing in the future for the Raiders veteran QB. That is…if the Raiders WR room can take advantage.

Best NFL Same Game Parlay for Raiders vs. Patriots

Here is our top NFL same game parlay for Raiders vs. Patriots. And you can view all of our Week 5 NFL same game parlays.

Fading Brock Bowers is always risky, especially with how good he's looked this season. The Raiders tight end has 116 and 86 receiving yards in his first two games with double-digit targets in both. Even so, the Patriots present a tough matchup this week.

New England has allowed the second-fewest receiving yards per game to opposing tight ends this year (26). The Patriots are also giving up the fourth-fewest receptions per game to the position. Granted, they haven't faced many elite tight ends like Bowers yet. However, this defense did hold Buffalo's Dalton Kincaid to just seven yards on one catch last week.

As the Patriots keep Bowers quiet, bank on Tre Tucker having a bigger role in the Raiders' passing attack. The Las Vegas wide receiver room is very banged up, leaving Tucker as one of the only reliable options for Kirk Cousins. He's eclipsed 40+ yards in three straight games and should do it again this week. Tucker is a deep-ball threat, averaging 15.5 yards per catch, so he may only need 2-3 receptions to reach 40+ yards.

Switching over to the New England offense, TreVeyon Henderson may be due for a big game in a favorable matchup. The Raiders are allowing 5.2 yards per carry this season, the second-most in the league. The defense is also giving up 134.5 rushing yards per game, the sixth-highest. Meanwhile, Rhamondre Stevenson is questionable this week, which could increase Henderson’s workload.

What is an NFL player prop bet?

An NFL player prop bet is a type of wager where you’re betting on the performance of a specific player in a game rather than the overall outcome. For example, you might place a bet on how many passing yards a quarterback will throw for, or how many touchdowns a running back will score. It’s a fun way to get more invested in the action, especially if you’re confident in how a particular player will perform, regardless of who wins or loses the game. It’s like focusing on one slice of the pie instead of the whole thing.
