- Leg 3: Karl-Antony Towns 34+ Points + Rebounds (-147)
This is one of the highlighted matchups of the evening as it pits two of the top teams from last year's Eastern Conference.
The Cavaliers took a considerable leap forward in their first year under head coach Ken Atkinson. They went from a more defensive-centric team to the best offense in the league, which helped them get the top seed in the Eastern Conference. In 2024-25, they led the league in points per game (121.7) and were second in shooting percentage (48.8%). Their offense will be guided by Donovan Mitchell, who led the team in points and was 16th overall (24.0). Especially with Darius Garland sidelined to start the season, the Cavs will look to him to lead the offense. He had success against the Knicks last season, scoring 25+ points in two of the three matchups, but with Garland’s absence, he'll be taking the role of facilitator.
The Knicks had large expectations going into last season. They took a big swing during the previous offseason and acquired Karl-Anthony Towns. KAT was a big key to their success last season, finishing second in the league with 12.8 rebounds per game and 12th with 22.4 points per game. This team was very close to their first NBA Finals appearance since the 1998-99 season. They were unfortunately knocked out in the conference finals, which led to the firing of head coach Tom Thibodeau, bringing in former Cavs head coach Mike Brown. Towns’ ability to play the perimeter will help because he won't always have to match up with Cleveland center Jarrett Allen. In the last matchup, he had 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Some of the stars with have flashes, these teams have played lower-scoring games. They’ve scored under 225 points in two of the three matchups, and that one was an anomaly with the Cavs winning 142-105.
