Sunday’s Best MLB Picks & Predictions

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay comes into this game looking for the series sweep, the first of the season for the Rays. New York hopes it can stop its current slide at four losses in a row and keep from getting swept for the first time this year. But the Yankees have had a major issue this season that has been holding them back.

They can't hit (or at least haven’t hit very well this season). New York currently has a batting average of .202 (28th), and it has not started getting better yet. Over the last week, the Yankees hit just .170.

The Rays have hit .255 on the season, good enough for fifth-best in baseball. But they've been hitting .232 over the last week. That sounds like a lineup that Cam Schlittler (2-0, 1.62 ERA) can control. He'll be looking to bounce back after giving up five hits and three runs to the A's in his last outing.

Rays probable starter Drew Rasmussen (0-0, 1.80 ERA) has gotten off to a solid start this season, despite not factoring into a decision in his two starts. While I expect to see the Yankees win, I wouldn't count on them covering the run line.

Pick: Yankees Moneyline (-150 at BetMGM)

Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are looking for the series sweep today after taking Game 1 on Friday (8-7) and Game 2 yesterday (6-3). But the stage may be set for a Rangers upset.

For the Rangers to pull it off, Jacob deGrom will need to throw a gem and go deeper than his longest start of the season (five innings), which he is certainly capable of. During his career, he has faced some of the current Dodgers in 138 at-bats, holding them to a .210 average (29 hits, four home runs). However, the Dodgers are currently the best hitting team in baseball, with a .297 average this season (.316 over the last week).

While deGrom gave up one hit in his last start, a home run, it didn't factor into the decision due to a lack of run support. But that could/should change against Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki. Through two starts, Sasaki is 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. Sasaki gave up five hits (including two home runs) and six earned runs in five innings versus the Nationals in his last start.

Pick: Rangers Moneyline (+110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
