Thursday's Best MLB Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Cleveland Guardians (-118) at Detroit Tigers (-102) | O/U 6.5 (-120/+100)

The Tigers are just one win away from continuing their unlikely playoff run. It will be all hands on deck again, as almost anyone could be available in the lineup and on the mound.

The pitching continues to be the driving force. They have held the Guardians to 20 straight scoreless innings and nine hits in the last two games. Currently, there is no definitive starter, but if it hasn't been Tarik Skubal on the mound, no one has pitched more than a couple of innings, so we should see a lot of different arms.

Cleveland’s offense has been average this season, 14th in runs scored per game (4.3) and 22nd in batting average (.237), so when they've run into a stellar pitching staff like Detroit, it's been tough to overcome it. They looked good early on, as they scored seven in Game 1, and might have stopped the Tigers’ momentum, but Detroit has been able to adjust, just like they have the entire second half.

It will be up to ace and Game 1 starter Tanner Bibee to keep the season alive. He went 4.2 innings in his last start. We'll have to see if  Stephen Vogt makes moves based on matchups or lets Bibee roll to save arms for a possible Game 5.

We’ve seen three straight shutouts and two straight 3-0 games. Take the under at even odds.

Pick: Under 6.5 (+100)

New York Yankees (-155) at Kansas City Royals (+130) | O/U 7.5 (-118/-102)

The Yankees played a fantastic Game 3 and can close it out tonight. Giancarlo Stanton is having another excellent playoff run and was the difference maker with an RBI double and solo home run to get the 3-2 win. Big credit also goes to the bullpen, which held down the Royals for the final 4.1 innings, including closer Luke Weaver, who got the five-out save.

New York will rely on ace Gerrit Cole to send them to the American League Championship Series (ALCS). He went five innings and allowed three runs in Game 1.

There are a couple of things the Royals need to continue their season. The important one is to cut down on the walks; they allowed eight in the Game 1 loss and nine in Game 3. This is allowing extra at-bats and tiring this pitching staff. Second, Bobby Witt needs to do something. He's just 1-for-11, has zero extra-base hits and has struck out four times. Even though Aaron Judge is the clear favorite, he will get MVP votes and needs to play like one.

Michael Wacha was the starter in the Game 1 loss and went four innings, allowing three runs and three walks.

We’ve seen a lot of back and forth in each game and in the later innings, but ride with Gerrit Cole leaving with a lead.

Pick: Yankees First Five Inning Moneyline (-166)
