Sunday’s Best MLB Player Props & Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Frankie Montas Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-120)
Frankie Montas turned in a strong outing in his season debut with the Mets, tossing five scoreless innings with three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts in a tough matchup against the Braves.
This time around, it’s a much easier spot against a Pirates offense that ranks 28th in wRC+ against righties.
It also helps that this is a pitcher-friendly environment at PNC Park.
Despite this, we only need to pay a (-120) price on under 2.5 earned runs, making it worth a play today.
Spencer Strider Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-115)
Spencer Strider has clearly gotten back to form, just take a look at his recent game log:
- 5.0 innings, 2 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 walks, 8 strikeouts
- 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts
- 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, 13 strikeouts
While we’re getting a high number at 7.5 strikeouts, considering the matchup against the Phillies (6th in K% vs RHP), I’m willing to take the plunge given Strider’s recent performance.
It also helps that the Phillies are striking out a bit more against righties lately, as highlighted by a 22.3 K% in the last 14 days, which ranks 20th in MLB during that stretch.
Ride with Strider to keep it rolling against this NL East division rival.
Chad Patrick Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-150)
Chad Patrick is set for a smash spot at home against the Rockies, who have a 28.1 K% on the road, which is 30th in MLB. In fact, the Rockies strike out at a 1.6% higher rate than the 29th-ranked Red Sox.
We just saw Patrick hit his strikeout ceiling against the Pirates, where he racked up nine punchouts in only five innings.
Add in the fact that it’s another game at home in what is a pitcher-friendly environment, and you can see why this is an appealing wager.
For context, American Family Field is the second-best venue for strikeouts, according to a three-year rolling average of park factors at Baseball Savant.
With that in mind, we’ll ride with Patrick to get to six or more strikeouts here.
