MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions: Friday (4/7)

On Tuesday, Kenta Maeda crushed his strikeouts total, and Anthony Volpe was one of just four Yankees to get a hit. We could have gone 3-0, but Manny Machado was ejected in the first inning for arguing over the pitch clock. Such is life in the 2023 MLB. There are 14 games around the league today, including numerous day games.

Here are the best PrizePicks plays for Friday, April 7th's MLB action.

Friday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions

This Season: 5-4

Jack Flaherty Under 5.5 Strikeouts

Historically, Flaherty has had a few solid outings against the Milwaukee Brewers. Back in 2021, he had six and eight strikeouts in two of his three starts against them. But last season, Flaherty had just one strikeout in 3.0 innings against the Brewers, and in his only start against anyone this season, he managed to fan just four batters in 5.0 innings.

This Brewers' offense is playing well right now. They just scored 26 runs in a three-game series against the Mets after scoring 12 runs against the Cubs. They've been chasing starters early, which is not good for Flaherty, who will almost certainly need to go 6.0 innings if he is going to hit this number.

Clarke Schmidt + Dean Kremer Over 0.5 First Inning Runs Allowed

The Yankees and the Orioles are each in the top half of the MLB in runs scored this season. Both of their offenses will have a chance to capitalize on favorable pitching matchups on Friday afternoon.

Dean Kremer gave up five earned runs against the Orioles in his season debut. He is allowing current Yankees to hit .362 against him, and Aaron Judge is 4-7 with three home runs in his career. Schmidt has had much more success against the current Orioles, but his sample size is also much smaller. He didn't give up any runs in his first outing until the fourth inning, but the Orioles have already scored in the first inning of two games this season.

Tim Anderson Over 1.5 Total Bases

Anderson had a rough series against the Giants. He went just 1-11 and struck out four times. He has never gotten a hit off of Pirates' starter Rich Hill, but he has also only faced him twice.

The Pirates have allowed the fourth-fewest hits in the MLB this season, but it's hard to know if that's because of their pitching staff or the fact that they have faced the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds. Anderson would have hit this total in all four games against the Astros in the opening series of the season. Disregard what happened against the Giants and expect him to get out of his slump on Friday.
