The Mets (22-11) and the Cardinals (14-19) are set to play a doubleheader today, and the opening contest features a pitching matchup between Blade Tidwell and Erick Fedde. First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.
The Cardinals went 0-5 in Fedde's five April starts, and the right-hander allowed 3+ earned runs in two of those five outings. Fedde hasn't been overpowering this season, entering the series finale at 1-3 with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. I expect this red-hot Mets team to rack up the runs in the opening game of the doubleheader, so I'll play Fedde to allow more than 2.5 earned runs.
The Mets have dominated Fedde in the past, as the current roster is slashing .330/.406/.491 against him over 113 at-bats. Additionally, as I mentioned above, this New York lineup is on a tear right now. Over the last seven days, they're second in wOBA (.417), third in wRC+ (170), and fourth in ISO (.241).
The Angels (13-19) will turn to Jack Kochanowicz this afternoon when they try to salvage a series split against the Tigers (21-13). Detroit opts for Reese Olson in this American League showdown, which gets underway at 4:07 p.m. ET from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA.
Olson's primed for a big-time outing today against the Halos. Over the last seven days, Los Angeles is 27th in wRC+ (73) and 25th in wOBA (.273). Most importantly for this prop bet on Olson's strikeout line, the Angles are 29th in K% (27.2%) over the last week. Only the Orioles (28.6%) are worse.
The Detroit hurler isn't widely known for his strikeout ability, but he does boast a respectable 8.73 K/9 rate this season. He has struck out seven batters in each of his last two outings, as well as posting a 1.50 ERA over the 18.0-inning sample size. I'll take Olson to register 6+ strikeouts on the road today.
All roads lead to a heavyweight Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Dodgers (23-10) and the Braves (14-18) tonight. Dustin May takes the ball for Los Angeles, while Atlanta counters with Bryce Elder. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET from Truist Park in Atlanta, GA.
The Braves haven't fared well against May in the past, as their current roster is slashing just .138/.286/.276 against him over 29 at-bats. That equates to just four hits against the right-hander across 29 ABs. Interestingly, all four hits have come off the bat of Marcell Ozuna, who's 4-6 (.667) against May with a home run and a double. I'll play the Atlanta slugger to simply record 1+ hit, run, or RBI tonight.
Ozuna has been one of the lone bright spots for the Braves this season. His .438 OBP leads the club and his .276 batting average is the second-best among qualified hitters. Ozuna boasts a .907 OPS, which is the 20th-best in the MLB. With May struggling over his last two starts (8.71 ERA in 10.1 IP) and having a poor track record against Ozuna, I expect the Braves hitter to have a nice offensive game tonight.
