Thursday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
MLB PrizePicks Record This Season: 38-32-2
Chris Flexen Less Than 4 Strikeouts
Chris Flexen is not that guy, pal. Even with a line this low he is not, mainly due to who he faces today. The Houston Astros are one of the more strikeout-averse teams in all of baseball, ranking 28th in K% (18.9%) and sixth in wRC+ (110) against righties this season. Flexen also hardly exceeds this number and ranks in the 25th percentile in K% and 22nd in CSW%. He has failed to eclipse this mark in 12 of his 15 starts and has stayed under in seven of those outings.
Luis Gil More Than 17 Outs
Admittedly, this is a tough spot for Luis Gil, as he takes on the Orioles. With that said, Gil has proven capable of shutting them down. He fired six and a third innings of shutout ball, allowing just three baserunners, en route to a 2-0 Yankees win over Baltimore on May 1. That outing jump-started his recent incredible run.
Over his last nine starts, Gil has rung up 61 batters across 55.1 innings, while sustaining a 1.14 ERA. He has gone at least six innings in seven of these nine starts. The Yankees could really use the depth tomorrow. Gerrit Cole made his first start of the season yesterday, and they only let him go four innings, so the bullpen was worked heavily. If he is mowing them down, the leash will be long for Gil here, so let’s bank on him keeping this elite run going.
MacKenzie Gore Less Than 17.5 Outs
MacKenzie Gore has been pitching very well for Washington but isn’t one to work deep into games. He is under this in nine of his 14 starts and throws the fourth-most pitches per plate appearance (4.16) among 125 qualified starters. Taking on Arizona is no easy task, as they are second in wRC+ (123) against lefties this season. Eighteen of the 24 left-handed starters to face them have failed to go six innings.
