Well, compared to yesterday’s slate, the starting pitching outlook is bleak at best today. That doesn’t mean there aren’t a couple of angles worth attacking for today though. Here are three of my favorite pitcher props for Thursday, August 8.

Wednesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
MLB PrizePicks Record This Season: 59-43-3
Frankie Montas More Than 4.5 Strikeouts
This isn’t the Montas of old, but it isn’t the Braves of last year either. Atlanta is eighth in K% (25.6%) and 25th in wRC+ (91) against right-handed pitching over the past month. Fifteen of the last 19 righties they faced have found at least five strikeouts against them. This includes Montas himself, who struck out six in 4.1 innings pitched. Again, Montas isn’t the pitcher he once was, but he can find at least five strikeouts in a solid matchup. He has gone over this in seven of his last 11 starts.
Kevin Gausman More Than 5.5 Strikeouts
The case for Gausman in this matchup isn’t very data-driven from this season, I’ll be honest. He has been very shaky throughout the season, and his strikeout rate and CSW% have dropped off significantly. With that being said, he can still flash for big strikeout upside on any given start, as long as that splitter of his shows up. We saw the good version of Gausman show up just two starts back against Texas when he went the full nine frames while striking out eight. The Rangers are a very difficult team to strike out, so why can’t he show up and do that against Baltimore here?
David Peterson Fewer Than 5.5 Strikeouts
Typically speaking, the Rockies are a target for strikeouts, but I’m willing to back them in this case. David Peterson is not a strikeout pitcher anymore. He has failed to go over this mark in eight of his 11 starts this season, ranking in the bottom 22nd percentile in K%. Pitching at Coors Field will do him no favors either. The altitude puts a significant toll on breaking pitches, so take the Under here.
