Tuesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 83-61-5
The Padres continue to be one of the best teams in the MLB at avoiding strikeouts. Tonight, they should be able to continue their successful campaign against a pitcher who has really struggled of late.
Falter has pitched 4.0 or fewer innings in four of his last seven starts. Two starts ago, he made it just 2.0 innings, as he struck out just two while allowing five hits and three earned runs. Falter doesn't have much history against the Padres, striking out just two batters in 10 attempts. With Falter's longevity issues and the fact that he has only 64 strikeouts in 95.2 innings this season, there is no reason not to back the Padres.
Rodriguez is finally making his season debut on Tuesday. Last season he struck out 143 batters in 152.2 innings, so his strikeout count could end up being pretty high despite limited starts this season. However, Rodriguez will not strike out many batters on Tuesday night.
The Guardians have the fourth-fewest strikeouts in the league this season. Rodriguez also may be on a pitch count as the Arizona Diamondbacks ease him back into things. These two facts make it very unlikely that he gets over a very low number. This is a tempting line from oddsmakers, which makes us like the Under even more. Don't look at Rodriguez's success from last season. That doesn't mean anything right now.
Chapman has recorded two hits in back-to-back games. He has also recorded one home run in each of those contests. He's in the midst of a four-game hitting streak, and he has gone over 1.5 Total Bases in six of his last eight games.
Tonight, he faces MacKenzie Gore, a pitcher who has allowed 123 hits in 111.0 innings this season. Gore and Chapman have never faced each other, but Chapman has the advantage tonight. He's red-hot, and Gore gives up so many hits that even cold hitters have a chance against him. Look for an extra-base hit for Chapman for the third game in a row.
