Last Monday in August and the end of the regular season draws near. The slate is always smaller, but that doesn't mean we can find some good matchups and winnings parlays.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins
- Leg 1: Dodgers -1.5 (-138)
- Leg 2: Tony Gonsolin Over 5.5 strikeout (-128)
- Leg 3: Freddie Freeman to record 2+ total bases (-105)
The Dodgers will try to leave Miami taking three of four, and they luckily have their best pitcher on the mound. Currently, Sandy Alcántara is the Vegas favorite to win the NL Cy Young, but Tony Gonsolin is right behind him. Gonsolin leads the NL in ERA (2.10), wins (16), and WHIP (0.865), and today he has a very favorable matchup as the Marlins are statically the worse offense in baseball this month.
It looked like Pablo Lopez would be in that Cy Young conversation going 4-2 with a 1.83 ERA through May for the first couple of months. After that, the wheels fell off, going 4-6 with a 5.00 ERA since.
It's pretty easy to side with Gonsolin and the Dodgers today.

New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels
- Leg 1: Yankees -1.5 (-118)
- Leg 2: Frankie Montas Over 6.5 strikeout (+124)
- Leg 3: Shohei Ohtani to record 2+ total bases (+110)
Many thought the Yankees getting Frankie Montas would be an excellent pickup for the back of their rotation. His tenure with New York has not started well, with a 7.32 ERA in his first four starts. Maybe facing a familiar AL West foe will do him well as he faces the struggling Angels. He's had one very good start against them, going six innings allowing two earned and season-high 12 strikeouts. In the other start, he had 1.2 shutout innings until he left the game after being hit with a line drive.
Jose Suarez is on a pretty good run, going 3-2 with a 1.93 ERA in his last five starts. When you look closer at his opponents, you'll see the three wins were two against Oakland and Kanas City, both teams at the bottom of the American League. The two losses came from Tampa Bay and Seattle, who currently hold a playoff spot, and this has been a trend throughout the season.

San Diego Padres vs. San Fransisco Ginats
- Leg 1: Under 7 (+102)
- Leg 2: Carlos Rodon Over 6.5 strikeout (-130)
- Leg 3: Manny Machado to record a hit (-210)
There was a question on whether Carlos Rodon would still be on the Giants at this point, and we even saw that emotional moment where he hugged his teammates on his last start before the trade deadline. He remains in San Fransisco and is in the middle of one of his best stretches, going 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA in his last five starts. He would love to see a repeat of his previous performance against the Padres as he went the whole nine and tied a season-high 12 strikeouts.
Mike Clevinger came back from Tommy John this year and was looking good at the beginning, but over the last two months, he's been trending downward, going 2-5 with a 4.03 ERA with hitters batting .277. If you look through his game log, you will see he has not been able to come away with effective outings against good lineups.
The Giants lineup has been in that lower tier, so Clevinger should put up a good performance, but he'll need to be nearly perfect against Rodon.
