As we head into the final month of the season, there are still some important races to decide. We have one team that wants to climb into first in their division, another that’s increasing their division lead, while another is letting it slip away.
All important games to pay attention to.

Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins
Sandy Alcántara’s odds to win the National League Cy Young are substantial as we head to September (-800, according to Vegas insider). On a Miami team that cannot score, he has 12 wins and leads the NL with a 7.0 WAR amongst pitchers and a 2.13 ERA. He already has two stellar starts against Atlanta -one being a complete game shutout and another going eight innings, allowing one earned and striking out 14.
On an excellent Atlanta pitching staff, Charlie Morton could be called a black sheep as he is the only starter with more than a three ERA and his six wins are the fewest, even fewer than Spencer Strider, who's made nine fewer starts. He had just one start against Miami back in May and went 5.1 allowing three earned in a win.
The Braves’ offense was not good against a bad Colorado pitching staff. Now they have to face a pitcher that already has two great starts against them. This has the feeling of an upset.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Don't look now, but the Yankees' second-half troubles could cost them the division, and this weekend is important series. After an initial rough, Domingo German has pitched much better with 2.29 ERA and 3.48 FIP in his last seven starts. One of those starts came against the Rays going 4.2, allowing three earned and striking out six.
Jeffery Springs is having a breakout year as he became a first-time starter. He already has two stellar performances against the Yankees and has allowed just three earned in 11 innings.’
The Yankees offense is struggling, even in favorable matchups. As they play a second-place team just six games behind, I can't trust them against Springs, who's pitched well against them.

Chicago Cubs vs. St, Louis Cardinals
Jordan Montgomery's fresh start has done wonders for him, as he's 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA, and the team has won all five outings. In his previous start against the Cubs, he accomplished something he never did in 97 starts with the Yankees -pitched a complete game shutout.
Adrian Sampson is going against a buzzsaw that is the Cardinals' offense that finished as the best in August. He saw this lineup a little over a week ago and was roughed up for five runs in a 13-3 Cubs loss.
