Pittsburgh Pirates at Atlanta Braves

  • Leg 1: Braves Moneyline (-155)
  • Leg 2: Under 7.5 Rums (-108)
  • Leg 3: Pirates Under 3.5 Team Total Runs (-130)

With the National League having a lot of teams in contention for the Wild Card, the trade deadline will be a frenzy.

The Pirates should be one of those trying to improve, as they sit just five games out of the last Wild Card spot. They need to acquire some bats, as they aren't in the top 20 in any major offensive category.

Bryan Reynolds is their standout hitter, leading the team in batting average, home runs, RBI, on-base percentage (OBP) and hits. No other regular player is hitting above .250 and only three have more than 10 home runs.

The pitching has been fairly better, especially the rotation, as their 39 quality starts are fourth. Paul Skenes is getting the most notoriety because of how phenomenal he's been out of the gate; the team is 6-2 in his starts, and although he's only had eight, he's second amongst the pitching staff in WAR.

Despite losing Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider for the season, the Braves are still a title contender. Not many teams can lose last year's MVP and someone in contention for last year's Cy Young and still be a playoff threat, but that shows how deep they are.

With Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber out of the lineup for the Phillies, they could shrink that deficit in the National League East.

Max Fried struggled out of the gate but has been lights out the last couple of months with a 1.97 ERA and opponents only posting a .476 OPS in his last 11 starts.

This has all the makings of a fantastic pitching matchup, but the Pirates’ complete lack of offense could make it difficult for Skenes.

Parlay Odds: +461

New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays

The Yankees can exhale a sigh of relief as they snapped their five-game losing streak on Friday. The offense has been bad recently, especially strange given how great it was leading up to that losing streak, but it finally broke through with 15 runs in their last game.

The pitching continued to struggle with a 7.48 ERA in the previous 11 games and went from leading the league in ERA to fourth.

It's been a strange year for Nestor Cortes; he's just 4-6 and the Yankees are 7-10 in his starts, but amongst those losses, he allowed three or fewer runs in six and the Yankees scored more than three runs just once.

The Blue Jays looked good just a couple of weeks ago, but they went on to lose seven straight. Their chances of catching the Yankees or Orioles are slim, but at 7.5 games out of the Wild Card, they still have an opportunity for the playoffs.

They need to improve on offense and pitching; they had a 5.80 ERA during that eight-game losing streak and their offense only batted .236. Chris Bassitt has been fantastic over the last two months with a 2.36 ERA and opponents have only a .288 slugging percentage against him during that span.
