Colorado Rockies at New York Yankees

The Yankees will have to fight for a playoff spot until the end. They only hold a 1.5-game lead in the American League East, but only six games separate them and the Red Sox, who are just outside of a Wild Card Spot. Choking away the season is not out of the realm of possibility. We saw how bad of a stretch they had going into the All-Star Break; another could cost them the season.

It's shocking how much the pitching has dropped; before June 15th, they were first in ERA (2.96) since then they are 26th (4.89). Will Warren finally had a respectable start, allowing two earned in five, but that was against the White Sox.

When you analyze Colorado, you must consider whether it's a home or away game. The Mile High Effect is real; they are fourth in runs scored per game at home (4.97) and 28th on the road (3.57). Those struggles on the road were prevalent on Friday, as they were shut out in the Bronx and reduced to four hits against Carlos Rodon and the bullpen.

Rookie Bradley Blalock has had a great start to his career. With only 12 innings under his belt and a 2.92 ERA in starts against Arizona and San Diego, he has been great.

St. Louis Cardinals at Minnesota Twins

The Twins are just two games out of first place and have the chance to win back-to-back division titles. They have another series against the Guardians, so they have a chance and even a potential first-round bye.

There's been a huge improvement to the offense from last season; they went from 23rd in batting average (.242) to seventh (.254) and 30th in strikeout percent (26.8%) to tenth (21.1%).

The problem is the pitching dropped drastically; they went from fifth in ERA (3.85) to 17th (4.09). Pablo Lopez struggled during the first half of the season but has improved in the second, and over his last ten starts, he has a 2.95 ERA.

Although the Cardinals have dipped out of the National League Central conversation, they still have a chance at the Wild Card. They are only 5.5 games out of the final spot, but five additional teams are within seven games, so it won't be easy.

The problem for them is consistency. The offense has gotten below-average numbers from their anchors like Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, and the same with some of their starting pitchers.

That includes Sonny Gray. He's been fantastic at home with a 2.72 ERA but has become a shell of himself on the road with a 5.43 ERA.

The revenge factor is in play for Gray, and the familiarity of playing in that stadium could make it feel like home and help the Cards grab a win.
