They have a couple of cornerstone players who will become free agents in the next couple of years, and they will have to decide whether to pay them or try to trade them next year.
One of those players is Vladimir Guerrero Jr., one of baseball’s hottest players, who is hitting .525 with a 1.667 OPS over his last 16 games.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Pittsburgh Pirates

It looked like the National League Champions would have an underwhelming year, but they have completely turned it around. Arizona went an MLB-best 17-8 in July and went from 11.5 games out of first in the NL West to just four.
The offense has played a big part for most of the season, but since July 1st, they have led the league in on-base percentage and been second in batting average, while the pitching is fourth in FIP.
Ryne Nelson did not start the year well, but like the D-Backs as a whole, he turned his season around in July. In six appearances (five starts), he has a 2.41 ERA, and the team is 5-1 in those games.
Although the Pirates are just a game above .500, they are still in the hunt for the NL Central and the Wild Card. The offense has been disappointing throughout the season, as they are 20th in runs scored per game and 25th in batting average.
The pitching will be the driving force, which is third in ERA. They will be led by Paul Skenes, who is the large favorite to win the NL Rookie Of The Year but could also win the Cy Young if he keeps pitching this way, which includes 11 of 13 quality starts.
