Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres

I am getting a sense of deja vu. We just saw this exact matchup last Tuesday, and we are going to use a similar script.
To start us off, the Phillies have the clear pitching advantage with Cristopher Sanchez getting the nod. He’s been one of the hottest starters in baseball, carrying a historic scoreless streak into this series while leading the National League in ERA.
Philadelphia has completely owned this matchup lately, winning four straight meetings against San Diego while the Padres have dropped seven of their last eight games and are dealing with lineup depth issues after injuries.

Just like we saw last week, Harper is coming off a great game, hitting his 14th HR, propelling the Phillies to their 4th straight win against San Diego.

Despite Harper going 0-for-2 against Walker Buehler last week, historically, Harper has crushed San Diego pitcher Walker Buehler. In eight at-bats against the righty, Harper has four hits, including three doubles and one dinger.
Sánchez's swing-and-miss stuff has been electric. He struck out 7+ hitters in four of his last five straight starts while generating a ridiculous whiff rate on his changeup.
The Padres have the 11th highest K% against left-handed pitchers, and just last week, Sanchez fanned nine batters in their matchup last week.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Houston Astros

The Pirates have quietly won four straight games and just hung 10 runs on Houston in the series opener, and have the clear pitch advantage with Paul Skenes on the bump.

While Houston sends Spencer Arrighetti to the mound with a sparkling 1.34 ERA, underlying metrics suggest some regression could be coming. His expected ERA of 4.70 sits significantly higher than his actual ERA, and now he faces a Pirates lineup that’s been red hot.
Arrighetti has been excellent this season, but again, I think regression is coming due to his underlying metrics.
He hasn’t reached the six-strikeout mark in five straight starts and recorded only three punchouts in his most recent outing against Texas despite pitching six innings.
The Pirates are also not an ideal strikeout matchup compared to some of the weaker lineups Arrighetti has faced this season. Pittsburgh has been putting the ball in play during this winning streak and forcing opposing pitchers to work deeper counts.
The Pirates exploded for 10 runs in the opener against Houston and have scored at least five runs in four consecutive games. Oneil Cruz is playing like an MVP candidate, Brandon Lowe has already reached 15 home runs, and the lineup has become much deeper than many bettors realize.
This play is also attacking what may be the weakest part of Houston’s profile: the bullpen. The Astros’ bullpen owns the league’s worst ERA at 5.22.
Even if Arrighetti delivers another quality start, Pittsburgh can still get to five runs by grinding at-bats early and capitalizing once Houston turns the game over to its relievers.
