MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 104-56
It’s a bit rare to see Luis Arraez with a price this low. He’s the king of contact and has owned the lowest whiff% and K% since the start of last season. Through 70 games this year, he has stayed under this in 54 games (77%), a similar rate to last year where he hit the under in 115/147 games (78%). He and the Padres take on Cristopher Sanchez, a left-hander not exactly known for his strikeout prowess. Sanchez ranks in the 43rd percentile in K% and 58th in CSW%. Arraez does have a strikeout in four plate appearances against him, a pretty small sample size nonetheless. The only arm in the Phillies bullpen that has struck him out is Gregory Soto - once in nine plate appearances.
We’re rolling with another heavily juiced prop to the less than, and for good reason. Braxton Garrett has stayed under this line in five of his six starts this year, allowing just four walks across 31 innings pitched. He ranks in the 100th percentile among starters in walk rate, not too far off from last year. He stayed under this in 24/31 starts in 2023 as well. Taking on the Cardinals shouldn’t be too much of a problem, as long as he finds the zone. St. Louis has the lowest walk rate (4.2%) across the last 30 days against left-handed pitching.
The Pirates’ flame-throwing rookie has taken the MLB by storm and continues to strike out batters left and right. He ranks in the 99th percentile in K%, 98th in swinging strike rate, 91st in CSW%, 89th in BB%, 88th in xERA and 100th in xFIP among starters. Skenes has gone over this line in four of his six starts and now draws one of the more strikeout-prone teams in the Reds. Cincinnati has the third-highest K% (25.6%) against righties this season and fifth-worst (25.4%) over the past 30 days.
