MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 114-61
Look, I get that this isn’t the best price, but it still has value to it in my books. I’ve written about this prop over the past few days, and it continues to come through. That’s because Luis Arraez is the king of contact. Over the past two seasons, he owns the lowest strikeout rate and whiff rate among all batters in Major League Baseball.
Arraez has failed to accrue a single strikeout in 60 out of 77 games (78%) this season and now faces one of the worst pitchers around in Patrick Corbin. He is 2-for-6 with a strikeout against him, however. With that said, I’ll gladly take a swing at this one with the track record Arraez has for this play.
Sticking with the same theme of contact hitters, let’s bank on Adam Frazier putting the ball in play. Due to injuries, he doesn’t qualify right now, but for the duration of his career, he has been in the top 90-ish percentile in both K% and whiff% among batters. While his hit rate on this player prediction isn’t nearly the same as Arraez (23/42, 55%), that is somewhat mitigated by being a potential pinch-hit candidate later in the game, further reducing our risk on the prop. He has been pinch hit for in 16 of his 42 (38%) starts.
Oh, you thought we were done with the hitter strikeout props? The case for Jake Fraley is fairly simple. Bailey Falter is pitching. He ranks in the bottom 18th percentile in K% and 26th in swinging strike rate among all starting pitchers. Fraley has faced Falter on three occasions without punching out. Not including the games he entered as a pinch hitter or defensive replacement, Fraley has stayed under this in 26 out of 48 games (54%).
