Happy Labor Day. We closed August with a bang, finishing 3-0 on Friday. Let’s see if we can roll that streak into the start of September for the Sleeper series. Here are two of my favorite player predictions for Monday, September 2.

MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 187-107 (63.6%)
An arduous sixth inning lost our play on Logan Gilbert’s outs last start, but he was sharp throughout the outing against Tampa Bay. That has been the case all season for him, as he ranks in the top 90th percentile in xERA, 93rd in xFIP, BB%, 81st in K% and 95th in SwStr% among all starters. Tonight he faces the Athletics at the spacious Coliseum, where we hope to see some quick outs for Gilbert. He has done a solid job of working his way deep into games this year, exceeding this line in 16 out of 27 starts. That includes an outing against Oakland where he went seven strong innings. While they have been swinging the bats pretty solid as of late, I’m willing to take a shot on one of the better starters in the game against them.
The Yankees ace isn’t quite on the same level he once was, but he still can find some punchouts. Gerrit Cole has gone over this line in six of his last nine starts and has a history of striking out this Rangers roster. They have combined for a 32.2% K% across 143 plate appearances against him. Texas has seen an uptick in strikeouts as of late, too, and are 10th in K% (24.9%) against righties over the past two weeks. If Luis Ortiz, Mitch Keller and Joey Estes can find at least seven against them, Cole should be able to as well.
