If you’re still reading this with Football back, I applaud you. Sure, there are plenty of teams out of the hunt, but there’s still meaningful baseball to be played in September. Let’s find a couple of wins to kick off the week on Monday, September 9.

MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 195-113 (63.3%)
The Phillies’ southpaw has strung together another solid season pitching out of the rotation. Sanchez ranks in the top 82nd percentile in xERA, 94th in xFIP, and 86th in BB% among all starters this season. He has stayed under this line in 19 of his 27 starts and draws a Rays lineup struggling to generate much offense as of late. Since the start of August, they have been 25th in wRC+ (80) and third in K% (28.6%) against left-handed pitching. Sanchez shouldn’t have any issue shutting them down through six or even seven frames.
Taking on the Halos is a welcomed sight for any starter these days. They have the third highest K% (26.3%) and are dead last in wRC+ (73) facing right-handed pitching since the start of August. Festa has some elite strikeout stuff, thanks to his slider, and ranks in the top 92nd percentile in K% and 89th in CSW% among all starters. He has been held to limited pitch counts in the low 80s throughout the year and has still managed to exceed this line in seven of his 10 starts. The Twins let him ride for 90 pitches last start, and 88 the outing before that, so if that trend means anything, he should continue to be in line for more work, making this an excellent leg to consider.
If his last start was an indicator of things to come, then this line is way too low. Detmers spent roughly three months in the minors, fine-tuning his mechanics and delivery, and in his first start back, he went berserk. The Angels left-hander finished with 10 strikeouts across six innings while allowing just three hits and two earned runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dating back to last season, he has had solid strikeout stuff, and this year he ranks in the top 84th percentile in K% and 92nd in CSW%, albeit with just 13 starts in the Majors. Facing the Twins isn’t the easiest of matchups, but neither were the Dodgers, so I’m willing to give him a chance in this one, to see if his work in the minors paid off.
