Crawford is going through a brutal stretch as of late. Excluding his last rain-shortened start, he has an 8.13 ERA (7.92 FIP) across his last seven starts. Additionally, he has stayed under this strikeout prop in seven of his last nine outings and draws a red-hot Blue Jays squad. They have the best wRC+ (138) and third-lowest K% (17.2%) over the past 30 days against righties. Pitching at Fenway Park does Kutter no favors either, and it’s only right to fade him given his form and the matchup on hand.
The Angels rookie right-hander is not looking for strikeouts. Kochanowicz is a sinkerball-heavy pitcher, looking to induce soft contact. He throws his sinker 67% of the time and ranks in the bottom third percentile in K%, CSW%, and SwStr% through his five starts in the Majors. Jack has failed to go over this line in four of his five starts and it’s not like they’re letting him work deep with his pitch count. He only threw 74 pitches in his last outing, despite going six innings. Today he faces the Tigers, who rate in the middle of the pack in terms of strikeouts as of late.
This isn’t the best matchup for Michael King either, but if you have ever watched him pitch, you would know why he finds so many swings and misses. The movement he generates on his pitches makes it look like he is throwing a wiffle ball at times. King ranks in the top 97th percentile in CSW% and 92nd in K% on the year, having eclipsed this mark in 11 of his last 12 starts, and 18 of 26 overall on the year. He takes on the Cardinals today who, as mentioned, do not strike out a ton, but it’s not like they are immune. We have seen Zebby Matthews (seven strikeouts) and Pablo Lopez (nine strikeouts) both get over this line against them in the past week.
