MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 193-110 (63.7%)
Suarez hasn’t looked amazing since coming off the IL, but one thing in which he has excelled is punching out batters. He had six strikeouts in each of his two starts since returning, even though it came on just 72 and 78 pitches. If Suarez is rolling, he should find his way to around the 90-pitch mark. Taking on the young and inexperienced Marlins lineup, he should be able to last a little longer in this one. Suarez has recorded at least five strikeouts in 15 of 21 starts and has found six punchouts in 14 of them.
Snellzilla has been stellar since returning from the IL back in July. That being said, it’s not like he has gone up against difficult lineups over this stretch, save for one outing against the Dodgers. Today, Snell and the Giants welcome their division-mates into town, the Arizona Diamondbacks. They have been hitting the cover off the ball more recently, particularly against left-handed pitching. Over the past 30 days, they have been second in wRC+ (124) when facing Southpaws, and 11 of the last 14 left-handed starters to face them have allowed two earned runs or more. The Snakes faced Snell at the beginning of the year and tagged him for nine hits and five earned runs across his 4.2 innings of work. Let’s hope to see them replicate that sort of production today.
Riding with the Pirates isn’t usually the best bet, but it’s not like Jake Irvin is anything special either. This line is simply too high for the Nationals’ starter. He ranks in the bottom 45th percentile in both CSW% and K% and has failed to eclipse 5 strikeouts in 19 of 28 starts on the season. Irvin has been knocked around hard lately too and he sports a 6.55 ERA (6.35 FIP) over his past 10 starts. He also hasn’t gone over this in eight of those 10 outings, making the under a solid pick.
