A 2-1 day on a three-game slate is a solid way to start the week. Let’s try to build off that success for today’s card. We are back to normal programming for Tuesday, with 15 games. Here are three of my favorite player predictions for Tuesday, July 2.

MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 118-73 (61.7%)
Coming off back-to-back brutal outings against the Mets and Orioles, I get it if you don’t want to back Luis Gil, but here’s my pitch. He gets to face the Cincinnati Reds. They are 26th in wRC+ (85) and tied for third in K% (25.7%) against righties this season. Their projected lineup will likely have only three batters with a K% less than 25% against righties this season. Gil possesses some elite strikeout capabilities, showcased by ranking in the top 90th percentile in K% among starting pitchers this season. He has found at least six strikeouts in 10 of his 16 starts and should be able to find a seventh in this matchup.
The Cubs turn to Hayden Wesneski, who typically resides in the bullpen, for another start. He pitched decent enough five days ago against the Giants, hurling four frames (72 pitches), while allowing two hits, a walk, three earned runs and striking out seven. He had three other starts earlier this year and stayed under this line in two. With his pitch count closer to the 70s and low 80s, this line has too much value.
Jose Soriano returns to the mound for the Halos for the first time since June 12th. With this being his first start back in a couple of weeks, it’s reasonable to assume he will be limited here, especially without any rehab starts. It is a bit of a guessing game to know exactly how many pitches he will throw, but I’d assume he’d be capped off at anywhere from 60-70 pitches. Oakland is known for striking out a ton, but if Soriano is going to be limited this line is far too high. Who knows what sort of rust he will have?
