MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 189-108 (63.6%)
This pick simply comes down to the belief that no starting pitcher deserves a walk prop this lofty. Nastrini hasn’t showcased the best control in his limited exposure to the big leagues, but we’re also talking about a 3.5-walk prop! He was recalled from the minors last week and permitted just one walk against the Rangers through six innings of work on August 29. The young White Sox right-hander has stayed under this line in 15-of-25 outings in 2024 and is under this in seven of his last eight as well. He faces the Orioles, who are 12th in BB% (8.2%) against righties over the past 30 days.
Nelson hasn’t had much trouble finding six innings as of late and now draws a great matchup to keep that trend going. He has exceeded this line in eight of his last 10 starts and gets the benefit of pitching in the ever-spacious Oracle Park. The Giants are 28th in wRC+ (86) against righties over the past 30 days, and Nelson shut them down earlier this season as well. He pitched into the eighth innings, tallying 23 outs, while allowing just two runs against them. Let’s hope we see that type of performance from him tonight.
This is a ridiculous line to be taking the Over on, but Chris Sale is a ridiculously good pitcher. He is the front-runner to win this season’s NL Cy Young for a reason after all. Sale has gone over this mark in eight of his past 11 starts and now faces one of the easiest teams to strikeout in the Colorado Rockies. Since the start of July, they have been third in K% (29.2%) and 29th in wRC+ (67) against lefties. It wouldn’t be all that shocking to see Sale reach double-digit strikeouts in this one.
