Friday’s Best MLB Underdog Fantasy Player Predictions
Brandon Nimmo HIGHER 0.5 Runs
Brandon Nimmo is atop New York’s lineup in a hitter-friendly ballpark. According to FantasyPros, Great American Ball Park has the third-highest park factor for runs (1.133).
Nimmo will benefit from the park factors and a matchup against a righty. According to FanGraphs, In 607 plate appearances against righties on the road since 2021, Nimmo has scored 100 runs with a .396 OBP, .181 ISO and 142 wRC+.
Hunter Greene and the Reds bullpen should surrender a few runs tonight. Greene has had a 4.83 ERA in 104.1 innings at home since reaching the majors in 2022. Thus, Nimmo is projected to score 0.8 runs on the Underdog Cheat Sheet.
Francisco Alvarez HIGHER 6.5 Fantasy Points
Francisco Alvarez has hit cleanup for the Mets in his previous two starts, which is outstanding lineup placement for scoring Underdog fantasy points. Additionally, he’s potentially in a spot to drive Nimmo in.
Alvarez is raking this season. In 21 plate appearances in 2024, he has had a .429 OBP, .300 ISO and 199 wRC+. The right-handed-hitting catcher has also ripped the cover off the ball in same-handed matchups. In 144 plate appearances against righties on the road in his career, Alvarez has had a .292 OBP, .328 ISO and 126 wRC+. Finally, the 262 righties who’ve faced Greene since last year have had a .376 wOBA.
Trea Turner HIGHER 9.0 Fantasy Points
Trea Turner has slotted second in Philadelphia’s lineup, meaning he’ll see washed-up Patrick Corbin immediately tonight. Since last season, the veteran lefty has yielded a .365 wOBA to 666 right-handed batters. Furthermore, he had a 5.20 ERA, 6.16 xERA, 4.76 xFIP and 5.01 SIERA in 2023.
In 570 plate appearances against southpaws since 2021, Turner has hit 30 homers with a .356 OBP, .245 ISO and 142 wRC+. Corbin has struggled with all righties, and Turner is significantly above average against lefties. The combination is a recipe for Turner to score fantasy points tonight.
Alec Bohm HIGHER 6.5 Fantasy Points
Alec Bohm can also take advantage of the juicy matchup against Corbin. In 489 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, he’s hit 19 homers with a .364 OBP, .212 ISO and 140 wRC+. Bohm also has a fantasy-friendly lineup spot, hitting fifth in two of Philadelphia’s previous three games against lefties.
