Friday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
PrizePicks record: 65-49-1
Following a four-game slump where he was held to 20 points or less, Kevin Durant got right back on track Wednesday, scoring 33 points en route to a 136-120 win over his former team, the Brooklyn Nets.
Today, the matchup is even easier, as the Hawks are 27th in aDRTG and also play at the fourth-highest pace. That should lead to more scoring opportunities in this contest, with a whopping 247.5 total. Durant has gone over this mark in 30 of 41 games this season, averaging 28.4 points per game. Although he has been over this mark in just seven of his last 15 since Bradley Beal consistently started playing, I’m willing to ignore that given the matchup on hand.
Normally, this is a number to take the over on for Paolo Banchero, but in this matchup, think again. The Timberwolves own the league’s best adjusted defensive net rating and have stifled power forwards better than any other team. They’re allowing the third-fewest points and rebounds, plus the fewest assists to the position. When these teams met on Jan. 9, Banchero finished with just an 18/3/3 line. I’d expect a similar output in this one, especially with a game total of just 212.5. Both teams are in the bottom 11 in pace.
This is another tough spot for a power forward taking on the Miami Heat. They are allowing the ninth-fewest points and fifth-fewest rebounds per game to the position. Erik Spoelstra always keys in on taking out an opponent’s best scorer, which is exactly who Kyle Kuzma is. In their lone matchup this season, “Kuz” finished with a 22/4/3 line. Washington is always a candidate to get blown out, too, and as eight-point underdogs, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see that happen once again.
