Saturday’s Best NBA Summer League Picks & Bets
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Sacramento Kings (+148) vs. Toronto Raptors (-4) | O/U 186 (-110/-110)
If you watch just one game during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, watch this one. Both teams are undefeated in Summer League play and have played solid offense and good defense throughout, averaging 96.8 (Toronto) and 95.3 (Sacramento) points per game while allowing 81 (Toronto) and 83.8 (Sacramento).
It should be a competitive, tight contest, but Toronto has a deeper roster and will be able to keep up the pressure on Sacramento's offense throughout the game.
Pick: Raptors -4 (-110)
Houston Rockets (+124) vs. Minnesota Timberwolves (-2.5) | O/U 183.5 (-110/-110)
I'm a little surprised the spread on this one is not a little larger. Houston is winless, while Minnesota was almost a playoff team. Not only have the Rockets failed to win a single game, but they've sat their best players already, which helped them lose their last game by 19 points. Minnesota is undefeated and plays good offense (92.5 points per game) and solid defense (83 points allowed per game).
This is going to be an ugly game that the Timberwolves win by double digits.
Pick: Minnesota -2.5 (-114)
Charlotte Hornets (-3) vs. Oklahoma City Thunder (+132) | O/U 186.5 (-110/-110)
A matchup between two teams undefeated in Summer League play, this could be one of those games you don't want to miss as a fan. However, as a bettor, you may want to get a little more information before putting your money down.
All things equal and no one sitting, I like Oklahoma City. When it comes to the Summer League, give me the team that plays better defense (Oklahoma City - 80.5 points per game allowed; Charlotte - 87.3 points per game allowed) all day long. However, while hardware is nice, having players healthy who are likely to contribute in the regular season is more important.
It would not be shocking if the Thunder sat Nikola Topic and/or Ajay Mitchell. But until that is confirmed, I'm rolling with the Thunder.
Pick: Thunder +3 (-108)
Portland Trail Blazers (-3.5) vs. Phoenix Suns (+138) | O/U 178.5 (-112/-112)
If you are interested in seeing two of the best big men in this year's rookie class play, then be sure and catch this game tonight. Yang Hansen has been impressive for the Trail Blazers, as has Khaman Maluach for the Sun. With NBA G League standouts like James Bouknight (Portland) and Boogie Ellis (Phoenix) leading the charge on the scoreboard, this has the makings of an entertaining contest.
Portland is the better team overall, but I'm not confident they'll slow Phoenix’s offense down enough to cover the spread. I'm not sure Phoenix has the firepower to win or keep it close, but I do think we'll see a decent amount of offense in this game.
Pick: Over 178.5 Points (-112)
