Saturday’s Best NBA Summer League Picks
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
New York Knicks (+210) vs. Boston Celtics (-6.5)
The Knicks lost their Vegas opener against Detroit on Friday, 104-86. Pacome Dadiet led the way with 17 points (8-of-13 from the floor) and he was one of four players to score in double digits for New York. Their defense was certainly lacking as Detroit made 48.6% from the floor and 45.5% from three-point range.
Boston won its opener against Memphis, 92-78. It was a solid overall defensive performance. Jordan Walsh led all scorers with 17 points, and Chip Bassey chipped in 14 in 18 minutes off the bench. Both teams showed promise in their opener. However, depth was an issue for the Knicks but not the Celtics. That should give the Celtics an advantage in this game.
Pick: Celtics -6.5 (-110)
Milwaukee Bucks (+5.5) vs. Los Angeles Clippers (-235), O/U 181.5
Both teams have played well so far. Milwaukee won a tough one against Denver on Thursday, 90-89, but fell to the Cavs Saturday night, 93-83. Chris Livingston had a good game in the loss to Cleveland with 21 points, nine rebounds, and five assists; Jamaree Bouyea chipped in 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
The Clippers, on the other hand, have just one game under their belt, a 95-92 win over Houston on Friday. Jordan Miller had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Cam Christe added 21 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Each team has had standout performances from some of its young players, but I have to give the Clippers an edge in this one.
Milwaukee will be playing in the second game of a back-to-back. The Clippers will make a late surge and pull ahead in the end.
Pick: Clippers -5.5 (-110)
Utah Jazz (-8.5) vs. Golden State Warriors (+290), O/U 182.5
Both teams lost their Vegas league opener Friday, but the games could not be more different. Golden State was dominated by Portland and lost by 33 points. Utah, while they lost, scored 105 points, led by Kyle Filipowski with 32.
Utah's squad has more players with actual NBA experience than most, and it shows on the court. They ran the table in the Salt Lake Summer League with three wins. Golden State played in the California Classic, winning one of three. Golden State looks like a squad ready to pick up its participation trophy.
Pick: Jazz -8.5 (-110)
