Overview

Despite showing signs of life in recent weeks, the Giants have lost five in a row by an average of 13.8 points. However, they have put up some points, averaging 17.8 over this five-game stretch, which includes matchups with the Vikings, Patriots, and Cowboys. Defensively, they continue to struggle, giving up 408.4 yards per game and allowing a 69 percent catch rate with a 9.5-yard average depth of target. Even with the Jets’ offense playing poorly, the Giants will need to step up defensively to win this game.

While the Giants have shown signs of life, the Jets have lacked any semblance of competence in recent weeks outside of Sam Darnold’s return against the Dallas Cowboys. The past three games have been highlighted by Darnold seeing ghosts against the Patriots and handing the Dolphins their first win of the season. They have averaged just 229.3 yards per game over this stretch and have been sacked 13 times. The poor offensive line play has been the biggest story, and they may struggle yet again facing former teammate Leonard Williams, who could give the Giants insight on both sides of the ball.

Trends

  • The Giants are 1-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games.

  • The Jets are 2-5 ATS in their last 10 games.
  • The total has hit the over in four of the Jets’ last six games.
  • The Giants lead the all-time series with the Jets, 8-5.
  • Last Meeting: December 6, 2015 — The Jets defeated the Giants, 23-20, at MetLife Stadium.

Winning Margin (4-Way): New York Giants by 1-13 Pts (+155)
With this game featuring two bad defenses, it comes down to the offenses to determine the winner of this MetLife matchup. The Giants will be without Evan Engram at tight end, but with Rhett Ellison getting the start, they get a much better run blocker on the field. This should allow Saquon Barkley to get going early, and if he is running the ball effectively, the Jets do not have much of a chance to stop the rest of this offense, with Daniel Jones and Golden Tate improving their chemistry every time they step on the field together. However, this game should stay within 13 points simply because of the struggles of the Giants’ defense.

Bottom Line

This is just an echo of the statement above. The Giants’ offensive line will be the determining factor in winning this game, and they will cover the spread for the fourth time this season.

Pick: New York Giants -2.5
