NFL Best Bets: Week 6 (2019)

NFL Best Bets: Week 6 (2019)

In what looked to be a waste of time, the New York Giants and New England Patriots kicked off Week 6 with a game that was surprisingly competitive, but the Patriots still cleared the spread. It was a strange way to start off what is expected to be an interesting week. Besides the Thursday game, we have the rare must-lose game between the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins, where anything could happen. Whether it be a game in the 50s or a 0-0 tie, nothing from that game would be a surprise.

To give you some clarity in a strange Week 6, here are the five best bets for NFL Week 6.

Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs (Under 55.5)
The word is out in how to slow down the Chiefs. It may not stop them completely, but it should slow the game down and limit possessions. The Chiefs are terrible at stopping the run, giving up 5.3 yards per rush (second-most). This has allowed other teams to control the clock and limit the amount of plays Mahomes and the offense gets, which is smart and is proving to work. Unfortunately, it may be even worse this week, with starting defensive tackle Chris Jones not practicing and being listed as doubtful. The Chiefs missing offensive weapons also should lead to the out-of-sync play from the high-powered offense. They very well could win this game, but I do not see the over hitting.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Baltimore Ravens (-11)
This spread is wide, but Baltimore is capable of clearing it. Defensively, the Bengals are atrocious, giving up an average of 411.8 yards per game (second-worst in the league). They are also giving up 27.2 points per game (sixth-worst). Offensively, they're banged up, missing both A.J. Green and John Ross from their receiving corps, and their offensive line is one of the worst in the league. Cincinnati’s pass protection struggles help neutralize the biggest weakness for Baltimore, which is their pass defense. The Ravens should be able to run all over these guys, with fairly little resistance.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Baltimore Ravens (Over 47.5)
The total has hit in four of Baltimore's games this season, with all five of their games averaging 56.8 points. The Ravens should have little trouble moving the football and scoring against Cincinnati, who is soft against the run and also allows a 70 percent catch rate. This is a perfect spot for a get-right game for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ offense. Cincinnati is also capable of putting up points, scoring 17 or more in four of five games this season.

San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams (-3.5)
The Rams played last Thursday while the 49ers played on Monday night, essentially creating a bye week-like advantage for LA. Since the start of last season, the Rams are 6-1 against the spread in games with a rest advantage. They are also coming in with something to prove, after dropping two games in a row and facing a divisional opponent who happens to be one of the remaining undefeated teams. The Niners’ strength is running the football, but that took a huge hit last week. After already playing without left tackle Joe Staley, the 49ers now lost right tackle Mike McGlinchey as well as fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Missing these two is a devastating loss on a short week while facing a defense that likes to bring the pressure and has Aaron Donald on the other side of the football. Offensively, the Rams should come out with a solid game plan against this talented San Francisco defense.

Tennessee Titans vs Denver Broncos (Under 40.5)
We have all of the trends on our side in this one. Let’s rattle them off. The under has hit in 12 of the Broncos’ last 14 games, which includes eight of their last nine home games. Tennessee has had the under hit in four of their last five games and six of their last nine road games. The Titans’ offense has been inconsistent at best, averaging only 223 yards passing on the season. The Broncos’ offense has surprisingly been decent from a yards perspective, but the Titans’ defense has been great, giving up only 15.2 points per game (sixth in the NFL).
