The last time we saw real professional football being played, it was an exciting Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, which ended up nearly going to double-overtime. The 2024 regular season gets underway with games in Kansas City, Brazil, and other various cities across the country before it’s capped off on Monday night in Santa Clara. It should be a tremendous weekend of action, and Mother Nature isn’t expected to rear her ugly head. In fact, we have some rather unseasonable temperatures in places, where it will feel closer to mid- to late October rather than early September. Will there be any rough spots for weather in Week 1 which might affect fantasy performances?

NFL Week 1 Weather Report: Advice & Predictions (2024)

Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs (-3) | Total 47 – Thursday
Forecast: 82 degrees, 10% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 7-9 MPH
In the NFL’s first game of the 2024 season, QBs Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes lock horns in a marquee matchup with some of the league’s brightest stars. There are thunderstorms which could ruin some tailgates, but any bad weather is forecasted to pull out of the area well before kickoff.
Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles (-2) | Total 49 – Friday
Forecast: 64 degrees (18 Celsius), 10% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 6-8 MPH
The Packers and Eagles open the season at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil for the NFL’s first-ever game in South America. It’s also winter until September 22 in the Southern Hemisphere, so it will feel more like November for these northern teams, rather than early September. There is a slight chance of precipitation with a slight breeze, so no problems here.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Miami Dolphins (-3.5) | Total 49
Forecast: 88 degrees, 35% chance of scattered thunderstorms
Wind speed: 8-10 MPH
This will be a Sunshine State battle at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and as is usually the case, this will be the hottest venue of the opening weekend. Temperatures will approach 90 degrees and heat indices near 100 degrees. If you’ve never experienced a game in South Florida in the summer heat, it’s a totally different experience; I once went to a Week 1 game there with a die-hard Patriots fan and despite the fact that his team was winning, and all we drank all day was water and a lot of it. In the third quarter, it was so baking hot, he tapped out and we both headed out before dying of heat stroke. Ha. Anyway, we’ll have heat, and there is a potential for thunderstorms, meaning a possible lightning delay.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Atlanta Falcons (-3.5) | Total 42
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome
The Kirk Cousins era gets underway at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and Atlanta might have a very interesting offense after also adding WR Darnell Mooney. This is the first of five AFC vs. NFC matchups in Week 1.
Minnesota Vikings (-1.5) at New York Giants | Total 41
Forecast: 67 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 9-11 MPH
Vikings QB Sam Darnold makes his glorious return to MetLife Stadium, although he is facing the G-Men rather than his original team, the Jets. It will be a dry, fast track, with the winds occasionally kicking up.
Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints (-4) | Total 42
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome
The Panthers and Saints will meet at the Caesars Superdome for one of just three divisional matchups in the opening weekend. Carolina WR Diontae Johnson also makes his team debut to help out QB Bryce Young.
New England Patriots at Cincinnati Bengals (-8) | Total 40.5
Forecast: 68 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 3-5 MPH
The Patriots and Bengals lock horns in the Queen City. Temperatures will be rather cool with no chance of precipitation and very little wind, making it a picture-perfect day in the ‘Nati.
Tennessee Titans at Chicago Bears (-4) | Total 45
Forecast: 69 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 7-10 MPH
It’s time for No. 1 overall pick QB Caleb Williams to make his first NFL start under center. Williams and his teammates will have cool temperatures at home, with no chance of precipitation but breezy conditions at times.
Arizona Cardinals at Buffalo Bills (-6.5) | Total 48
Forecast: 60 degrees, 15% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 7-10 MPH
A healthy QB Kyler Murray will lead the Cardinals into Orchard Park to battle the new-look Bills. WR Stefon Diggs is gone, so rookie WR Keon Coleman and third-year player Khalil Shakir will both look to get off to quick starts.
Houston Texans (-3) at Indianapolis Colts | Total 49
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome.
The Texans snuck up on everyone last season, but Houston’s strength won’t be a surprise this season. QB Anthony Richardson is also back and healthy for the Colts, and this should be an exciting game played under controlled environmental conditions.
Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers (-3) | Total 40.5
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome.
Indoors or outdoors, the weather would be perfect in L.A. I mean, it never rains in Southern California, right? Albert Hammond sung that back in the 1970’s, so it must be so!
Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks (-6) | Total 42
Forecast: 75 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 4-6 MPH
Conditions in Seattle will be mostly sunny, and this is predicted to be the third-warmest NFL venue on Sunday. Unlike Southern California, it rains a lot in the Pacific Northwest… but none is in the forecast for Sunday and conditions should be beautiful.
Washington Commanders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5) | Total 44
Forecast: 87 degrees, 60% scattered thunderstorms
Wind speed: 5-8 MPH
Tampa is in an area called the “Suncoast” in Florida, but we have a 60% chance of scattered thunderstorms, so we could very well see an interruption if there is lightning in the area. The good news about Florida storms is that they move quickly and ten minutes after they start, it will be sunny, steamy, and like the rain never happened.
Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns (-2.5) | Total 40.5
Forecast: 66 degrees, 15% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 14-16 MPH
Winds will be whipping up to 16 MPH off of the north coast of Lake Erie at Cleveland Browns Stadium. It’s possible that teams could see their passing games and kicking games bothered at times.
Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions (-3.5) | Total 51
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome.
We get a rematch of last season’s exciting NFC wild-card game, which the Lions eked out a 24-23 victory against former QB Matthew Stafford and company. It should be a fun battle in the second installment under the roof.
New York Jets at San Francisco 49ers (-4) | Total 44 – Monday
Forecast: 79 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 10-12 MPH
Monday Night Football will be coming from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and the Jets are hoping it’s not déjà vu all over again. Last year, the Jets opened the season with sky-high expectations, and then QB Aaron Rodgers snapped his Achilles’ tendon just five plays into the game, and he was out for the season. This time, he will have optimal weather conditions and a grass surface, although both QBs will have to deal with some wind at times.
