Week 1 was action-packed, and there were a lot of points on Sunday. Ben Johnson and the Bears backed up what they said in the offseason, but now face a prepared Vikings defense. The Steelers-Patriots, Bengals-Texans and Saints-Ravens also square off in Week 2. I have three plays for the Sunday slate. Devaughn Vele More Than 3.5 Receptions
The Saints had 86 total offensive snaps in Week 1, and Devaughn Vele was on the field for 91% of them. They will not have that many snaps this week against the Ravens, but it is promising that Vele almost never left the field. He had nine targets and caught seven of them for 69 yards and a touchdown.
The Colts and Daniel Jones struggled against the Ravens' secondary last week. Tyler Shough also got off to a slow start in Week 1, but he found a rhythm in the second half. The Saints should continue to play fast, which should help Vele hit this number in the second half of a game they are trailing.
Kyle Monangai More Than 8.5 Rushing Attempts
Kyle Monangai recorded 10 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Panthers. He added two receptions on two targets. He played 43% of the snaps, compared to D'Andre Swift's 57%. Neither was involved much in the passing attack, while Swift had 18 rushing attempts. Monangai is second in the pecking order, but should get touches when he is on the field.
The Bears have a tough matchup against the Vikings in Chicago. The Vikings' defense looked shaky at the start of the game against the Packers last week but allowed only three points in the second half. Jordan Love had 387 passing yards, while the Packers only had 66 rushing yards. I think the Packers' lack of talent and game script propped up the Vikings' rushing defensive metrics. Monangai should get some carries inside the tackles at Soldier Field.
Mike Evans More Than 3.5 Receptions
The 49ers gave the Rams all they could handle in Week 1 in Melbourne, Australia. Mike Evans played 75% of snaps and caught six of his seven targets for 49 yards and a touchdown. They have a home game against the Dolphins on Sunday and are the biggest favorite of the week (-13.5). They've had a little over a week to acclimate and adjust to their time zone, so we will see if that is enough time.
Kirk Cousins threw for 160 yards in Week 1 against the Dolphins, but he didn’t have to do much, with Ashton Jeanty carrying the load. De’Zhaun Stribling (ankle) is on injured reserve (IR), which should help Evans' production moving forward. Brock Purdy looked Evans way a lot on quick routes, which are easy receptions.
