NFL Week 7 Preview: Picks & Predictions (Chiefs vs. 49ers)

Daily Juice Podcast: 49ers vs. Rams Picks for Thursday (12/12)

The undefeated Chiefs could have their toughest matchup of the season this week. They will be traveling to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. The 49ers are 2-1 at home this season, while the Chiefs are 2-0 on the road. It should be the best game out of the three in the afternoon slot, so enjoy a good matchup between two powerhouses.

The Chiefs are 5-0 this season and were on a bye in Week 6. JuJu Smith-Schuster was limited on Thursday due to a hamstring injury. Defensive end Michael Danna (pectoral) has not practiced this week. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and wide receiver Mecole Hardman were full participants this week.

The 49ers beat the Seahawks 36-24 last week in Seattle. Running back Jordan Mason ran nine times for 73 yards before injuring his shoulder. He has been limited in practice this week and is questionable. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hip) has not practiced this week. Deebo Samuel (wrist) has been limited. Both kickers, Jake Moody and Matthew Wright, have missed practice this week, which is something to monitor.

(Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook)

  • Opening Line: 49ers -1
  • Current Line: 49ers -1.5 (-112)
  • Total: O/U 47 (-110/-110)

Is Patrick Mahomes Still Elite?

Patrick Mahomes has not been great this season. He has thrown an interception in every game, including two in Week 2. Mahomes has thrown six touchdowns and six interceptions with 1,235 yards. He averages 32 attempts per game, with the Chiefs averaging 52.98% pass plays. I would not worry yet about Mahomes. He should bounce back in the second part of this season as he gains chemistry with his receivers. Losing Rashee Rice for the season is a setback, so Mahomes must lean on Travis Kelce and Smith-Schuster

The 49ers have been average defending the pass this season and allow 21.7 points per game. Mahomes could end the interception streak he is on against this unit. The 49ers have a +3 turnover differential but only have six interceptions and five fumble recoveries. Mahomes can right the ship and post a respectable stat line against this defense, especially if his offensive line limits pressure.

Will Brock Purdy Step Up?

Brock Purdy will have to have a great game this week. Jordan Mason could miss this week’s game, which means it would be Isaac Guerendo getting the snaps. He ran 10 times for 99 yards last week on 26% of the snaps. He may get stifled against the Chiefs. They allow 88.4 rushing yards per game, which is fifth-best in the league.

Purdy will have to air it out this game because the Chiefs are average against the pass. He averages 271.5 passing yards per game with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Purdy averages 8.8 yards per attempt, the second-highest in the league. He should be able to spread it around, especially to George Kittle, who has caught a touchdown in four consecutive games. Kittle and Samuel should play a huge role in this game.

Pick: Over 47 (-110)
