In order to load up the schedule tomorrow, we have only one game tonight, but it’s between the Dallas Stars and the Edmonton Oilers. Here are my top plays.
Tuesday’s NHL Best Bets & Picks
Year to date: +30.53 units
Dallas Stars (+122) at Edmonton Oilers (-123)
As an Edmonton fan, I’d say the Panthers are the Oilers’ archnemesis, having beaten them in the Finals two years in a row. But from a Dallas perspective, that role is played by Edmonton. These teams don’t like each other much and have faced each other a LOT in the last two years, which means we have a general idea of how these games go.
Dallas will be without star Mikko Rantanen, who is serving a one-game suspension for a boarding penalty last time out. However, there is still plenty of firepower there, and the Oilers are going with Stuart Skinner in goal. Skinner is 3-4-1 in eight starts against Dallas with a 3.33 GAA and .876 save percentage. He has also been terrible at home this season, with a 3.54 GAA and .861 save percentage. Across the ice, the Stars will counter with Jake Oettinger, who has decent numbers against Edmonton, but he struggles against them north of the border.
Edmonton is also returning home after seven straight road games on the East Coast, but both teams are on three days’ rest. The Oilers allow the fourth-most goals per game to opponents (3.54), but they score more at home.
I don’t trust Stuart Skinner at all, but I think Connor McDavid & Co. love playing high-scoring games on home ice. So we’re going to stick with the Hockey Betting Golden Rule: Bet the over in Edmonton.
Pick: Over 6.5 (+107)
Player Props
Jake Oettinger Over 25.5 Saves (-110)
This line is somewhat inflated because of the team he’s facing, but Edmonton will come out firing on him. The loss of Rantanen will impact Dallas’ lines, which can throw off defensive schemes. That’s a tough pill to swallow when facing this Oilers team.
Connor McDavid Over 1.5 Points (+105)
Connor McDavid Over 0.5 Power Play Point (+115)
If books will give us plus money on McDavid to pick up two points any way he wants to, I’ll take it every time, especially at home. They are also giving us plus money for him to pick up one power play point. Edmonton is third in the league in capitalizing with an extra man on the ice, and Dallas’ penalty kill percentage is below average at 75.7%. I’ll play one unit on both.
Jack Roslovic + Wyatt Johnston 1 Point Each (+160)
Jack Roslovic has been a huge addition to the Oilers’ top line, picking up five points in his last five games and 17 in 22 games this season. Wyatt Johnston has been on a bit of a skid lately, but he will have to step up in the absence of Mikko Rantanen. I think they both get on the scoresheet, and the combo gives us great odds.
