Dylan Strome More Than 0.5 Assists
The Capitals (13-4-1) continue to play excellent hockey to start the season, and they'll try to grab their fourth straight win when they host the Avalanche (10-9-0) tonight. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
One of the key reasons to Washington's success has been the emergence of Dylan Strome as the top-line center. The 27-year-old is lighting it up, ranking fifth in the NHL in points (28) and third in assists (22). Strome has picked up at least one assist in 14 of his 18 games played this year. That includes adding an apple in last week's 5-2 victory against the Avs in Denver.
I'll take Strome to log another assist tonight. The Avs continue to be one of the worst defenses in the NHL, ranking 24th in GAA (3.16) and dead last in SV% (.858). The team cannot get a save to, well, save its life. I'll back Stromer and this red-hot Caps offense tonight.
Dylan Guenther More Than 2.5 SOG
One of the latest victims of the red-hot Capitals was the Utah Hockey Club (7-8-3), as they just lost to Washington on Monday in a 6-2 affair. The HC will try to bounce back tonight when they take on the Bruins (8-9-3), who just made a coaching change due to their lousy start. This cross-conference matchup gets underway at 7:00 p.m. ET from the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
The second Dylan that I'll back tonight is Utah's Dylan Guenther, who is materializing as a true goalscorer in this league. The winger leads the Hockey Club in both goals scored (7) and SOG (46). Guenther's 46 shots on goal across 18 games equate to 2.6 SOG/G. I'll take him to log at least three shots on goal tonight.
This is mostly a fade of Boston's defense. Typically, they're one of the better units in the league, but that hasn't been the case this year. The Bruins are 25th in GAA (3.25), and more importantly for this prop, they've faced the fourth-most SOG (590). Guenther plays with a shoot-first mentality, and I'll ride with him to rack up three SOG tonight in Boston.
Alexis Lafreniere More Than 0.5 Points
Let's wrap things up out West, where the Rangers (12-4-1) take on the Flames (10-6-3) in another cross-conference showdown. This is the NHL's nightcap tonight, and it gets underway at 9:00 p.m. ET from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, AB.
New York's offense is currently ranked sixth in the league, averaging 3.6 goals per game. While they have a tough matchup against a stingy Calgary defense (9th in GAA at 2.53), I fully expect the Rangers to go for 3+ goals. Their offense is just too dialed to have a letdown right now.
I'll lock in Alexis Lafreniere to pick up a point. The winger has 14 of them on the year, and they've come via seven goals and seven assists. Lafreniere has made his way onto the scoresheet in four out of his last five games, and in 12-of-17 games played this season. This Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere line is always dangerous, and I expect them to combine for a goal tonight.
