Overview
The Green Bay Packers felt they may have also found their stride after ending a lengthy midseason losing drought with a 31-28 overtime victory against Dallas last week, ending a five-game losing streak for them.
Will rookie wide receiver Christian Watson continue to be the game-changer he was against the Cowboys, collecting three touchdown passes? When the Packers play at home to the Titans on Thursday night, they are eager to see if their offense can continue to produce. The Packers surpassed 200 yards rushing for the third time in 2022 behind Aaron Jones (24 carries, 138 yards, and one touchdown), and also for the first time this season, Green Bay’s full offensive line started consecutive games.
Tennessee scores 18.4 points per game on average. Only two of the 140 teams with an average scoring differential of 18.4 points or less since 2002 have advanced to the postseason, as the Titans, who lead the AFC South by two games, are attempting to break the mold.
The Titans beat Denver 17-10 last week to avenge their overtime loss to Kansas City in Week 9 of the season. After missing the previous two games due to a sprained ankle, Ryan Tannehill connected with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine on two touchdowns as the Broncos focused on stopping running back Derrick Henry.
Henry broke a run of five games in a row with 100 yards or more on the ground by rushing for 53 yards on 19 carries. However, that was against a Broncos defense that has given up 1,044 fewer rushing yards than any other unit in the NFL. Henry, who ranks as the second-leading rusher in the league, is hoping to escape the Packers’ 4.8 yards per carry defense, which is tied for 28th in the league.
Bottom Line
Two of the last three encounters in the series have been won by Green Bay, including a 40-14 rout at home over Tennessee in Week 16 of the 2020 campaign. In four of the last five meetings, dating back to 2004, the winning team has scored 40 points or more.
It might be not easy to keep the Thursday trend going. Tennessee (6-3) hasn’t outscored an opponent by more than 24 points in a game this year, while Green Bay’s highest total is 31. (4-6).
However, the Packers are certain that their spark from last week has continued. When Green Bay was behind 28-14 in the fourth quarter, it came back with two touchdown throws from quarterback Aaron Rodgers to wide receiver Ben Watson before Rodgers led the game-winning drive in overtime that resulted in a 28-yard field goal from Mason Crosby.
In a game I have much closer to a pick-em this time around, I like the Titans to have enough to keep this one close.
